As a passionate admirer of Colin Farrell‘s work, I find myself deeply moved by his latest endeavor as an executive producer for “Room Taken.” Having spent a significant part of my life immersed in the complexities of immigration and understanding the struggles of newcomers, this film resonates with me on a personal level.

Actor Colin Farrell, who’s well-known for his role in “The Penguin”, has signed on as an executive producer for the Irish short film titled “Room Taken”.

Michael Whelan’s screenplay serves as the basis for TJ O’Grady-Peyton’s film exploration of solitude, sorrow, and the immigrant journey. Colmán Mac Cionnaith (“Supergirl”) assumes the role of producer in this project.

Bríd Brennan (“Hope Street”) stars alongside newcomer Gabriel Adewusi.

‘Taking Up Residence’ introduces us to Isaac, a newcomer in Ireland searching for lodgings. Intriguingly, he covertly settles in the household of Victoria, an older blind lady. This unconventional living arrangement eventually fosters a special connection between them.’

The short film ‘Room Taken’ has earned a spot on the Oscar longlist, having won the Best Short category at the 2024 Cleveland International Film Festival and garnered a gold medal as the Best Film in the Manhattan Short Film Festival.

Farrell stated, “The title ‘Room Taken’ is a soft plea for the strength of human connection. It delicately tackles themes of loneliness, sorrow, and the immigrant experience. The movie deftly weaves its characters and plots into a cohesive and moving whole. This film openly shows its empathy – and its heart – through touching performances and a story that lingered in my thoughts even after watching it. That’s why I was excited to contribute to making ‘Room Taken’ accessible to as many people as possible.

Previously, O’Grady-Peyton has created works such as the IFTA award-winning short film “Wave” and last year’s “Silence,” which received a nomination for an IFTA.

The film ‘Room Taken’ received financing from Screen Ireland.
