Coinbase’s TRUST Network: Because Compliance Shouldn’t Be a Coin Toss

Coinbase unveils four TRUST milestones that sound more impressive than my last New Year’s resolution (which, let’s be honest, was just “eat fewer cookies”).

In a move that’s about as surprising as finding a hair in your soup at a five-star restaurant, Coinbase has announced it’s expanding its TRUST network. Because nothing says “we’re serious about crypto compliance” like adding more acronyms to the mix.

On May 28, 2026, Coinbase Institutional-yes, the same folks who once froze $55M in crypto because, well, why not?-dropped four major updates. These include the launch of TRUSThub (not to be confused with my failed attempt at a dating app called TrustHub), BNY joining the party, a partnership with 21 Analytics, and a global Travel Rule expansion. Because who doesn’t love a good compliance-themed world tour?

TRUSThub: Because Compliance Shouldn’t Feel Like a Root Canal

TRUST, which stands for Travel Rule Universal Solution Technology (or, as I like to think, “Trying Really Urgently to Stay Trustworthy”), is an industry-led compliance network. It’s like a matchmaking service for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), but instead of finding love, they exchange Travel Rule data. Romance is dead, folks.

The newly launched TRUSThub is here to simplify this process, because apparently, compliance was just too easy before. It allows members to exchange data with counterparties, no matter what tools they’re using. It’s like a universal remote for crypto compliance-except it doesn’t get lost in the couch cushions.

According to the announcement, TRUSThub also tackles “sunrise” gaps, which are apparently a thing now. These occur when different jurisdictions phase in Travel Rule rules at different times, because nothing says “global cooperation” like everyone doing things on their own schedule.

Scaling TRUST globally with four major milestones in Travel Rule compliance worldwide. (Or, as my therapist calls it, “overachieving in the face of existential dread.”)

Today we’re announcing four major milestones: the launch of TRUSThub, continued global expansion, @BNYglobal joining the TRUST network, and a new collaboration with @21Analytics.

All built on… (suspenseful pause) blockchain, I guess?

BNY Joins the Cool Kids Table of Crypto Compliance

BNY, a global financial services giant, has officially joined the TRUST network. Coinbase is calling this a “sign of growing institutional alignment,” which is just a fancy way of saying, “Hey, look, even the big guys are doing it now!”

BNY joins an impressive roster of names like Bitgo, OKX, Revolut, and PayPal. It’s like the Avengers of crypto compliance, except instead of saving the world, they’re just making sure no one gets in trouble with the regulators.

The real draw here? No sensitive customer data sits in a central location. It’s like a game of hot potato, but with fewer burns and more legal compliance.

21 Analytics Partnership: Because Who Doesn’t Love a Good Shortcut?

Coinbase has also teamed up with 21 Analytics, a Travel Rule automation software provider. Because if there’s one thing the world needs more of, it’s automation. (Next up: robots that can file my taxes.)

This partnership aims to make it easier for VASPs to join the TRUST network, because apparently, the onboarding process was just too much of a hassle before. Existing workflows can carry over, which is great news for anyone who hates change.

Beyond Travel Rule data exchange, 21 Analytics offers tools to verify ownership of self-hosted wallets. Because nothing says “trust” like double-checking everything.

The partnership supports TRUST’s global expansion, which now includes the EU, UK, Australia, India, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Switzerland, and the UAE. It’s like a world tour, but with more spreadsheets and fewer groupies.

Coinbase promises to keep investing in interoperability, security, and ease of adoption. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from crypto, it’s that nothing ever goes wrong when you scale too quickly.
