Coca-Cola relaunches nostalgic Mexican sodas in the US

As a long-time gamer with roots deeply embedded in Latino culture, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia upon hearing about the return of Barrilitos soda to the US market. Growing up, this was a staple drink at family gatherings, parties, and late-night gaming sessions with friends. The taste of mandarina, manzana, piña, and ponche de frutas was as much a part of my childhood as the pixels on my old NES screen.

In an attempt to foster a connection with younger generations who appreciate nostalgia, Coca-Cola reintroduced a beloved Mexican soda within the U.S., offering them the taste of traditional Latino flavors.

After years of being discontinued in the United States, Coca-Cola has officially brought back Barrilitos, a Mexican soda that was first introduced in 1938.

In the year 2008, Coca-Cola bought the drink brand Barrilitos, however they continued to prioritize other Coca-Cola products. Despite stopping the production of the well-liked Mexican soda within the United States, it was announced on October 31 that Coca-Cola is planning to reintroduce Barrilitos in a way that caters more to consumer preferences.

Barrilitos Mexican soda, a classic from 1938 Monterrey, Mexico, is making its comeback in the United States! Enjoy a burst of nostalgia and rich flavor as you taste a piece of history. Let’s toast to flavors that have withstood the test of time!

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that Maria Correa, the visionary behind Barrilitos under the Coca-Cola umbrella, has announced some exciting changes. She revealed in a statement that our beloved Barrilitos is set to receive a refreshed brand identity, while maintaining the cherished traditional flavors that have delighted us for so long.

Barrilitos is transforming to cater to a modern era, yet keeping its cherished past intact,” Correa stated. “We’ve blended a revitalized brand essence with the traditional tastes that have made Barrilitos a treasured staple in Latino homes. This reintroduction encourages you to explore Barrilitos and appreciate its legacy in a fresh, innovative manner.

Currently, you can find the Mexican soda in California, Texas, and Las Vegas, Nevada. However, Barrilitos has announced plans to expand its distribution, with the beverage set to hit stores in Oklahoma soon.

Presently, the available flavors are Mandarina (mandarin), Manzana (apple), Piña (pineapple), and Ponche de Frutas (fruit punch). Similar to its previous packaging, Barrilitos are packaged in 12-ounce glass bottles with a twistable lid.

Besides the Barrilitos from Coca-Cola, consumers can still sample the distinctive Oreo-flavored version of Coca-Cola, which became available for a brief period starting in September.
