With his vast fortune, Terry had resources far beyond those available to Kreese and he harbored a singular ambition: to replicate what Daniel LaRusso thwarted in The Karate Kid Part III – seizing control of karate in the San Fernando Valley and dominating the devotion, thoughts, and allegiance of his numerous karate students.

Cobra Kai wisely kept Terry Silver and John Kreese from being allies for too long, as these two powerful figures eventually turned against each other. Terry cleverly maneuvered John into prison, thereby gaining full control over Cobra Kai. This is why we can credit Terry for expanding the reach of Cobra Kai, bringing in Master Kim Da-Eun (Hannah Alicia-Kim) and Master Kim Sun-Yung (C.S. Lee), who share a common origin with Kreese. Silver played a pivotal role in broadening the horizons of Cobra Kai, as it went beyond the Valley and became international with the Sekai Taikai tournament.

Silver Was Cobra Kai’s Ultimate, Irredeemable Villain

As a devoted fan, I have to say that while John Kreese is indeed a pivotal villain in the Cobra Kai series, it was Terry Silver who truly stole the spotlight as the most intriguing antagonist throughout the saga. The later seasons brought out new layers to Kreese’s character, showing that beneath his tough exterior, he does genuinely care for his students like Johnny Lawrence and Tory Nichols.

The heart-wrenching death of Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee) in season 6 of Cobra Kai finally cracked open Kreese’s hardened shell of malice, pushing him to embark on a journey towards redemption and atoning for a lifetime of wrongdoings.

Instead of Kreese, Terry Silver demonstrated an unchangeable nature of moral depravity. To explain, Terry is a man who headed Dyna-Tox, a corporation that callously engaged in environmental transgressions to bolster Silver’s wealth. Even the discovery of Terry’s terminal cancer diagnosis failed to soften his harsh demeanor. In essence, Silver is deeply corrupt, and he has a history of bribing officials within the All Valley and Sekai Taikai competitions. Unlike Kreese, some Cobra Kai students found him somewhat credible, but Terry Silver never gained anyone’s trust or respect.

In its later seasons, Cobra Kai deviated significantly from its initial Johnny Lawrence-focused narrative as established in the original Karate Kid. The dynamic between Johnny and Miguel, with Daniel LaRusso serving as a counterpoint, was instrumental in drawing back old-time Karate Kid enthusiasts and creating a new fanbase.
