CNN is set to broadcast the penultimate live show of “Good Night, and Good Luck,” the groundbreaking play penned and acted by George Clooney, who plays the iconic broadcaster Edward R. Murrow on stage.
On Saturday, June 7th at 7 p.m. Eastern Time, ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ will give its second to last performance live from Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre. The event will be broadcast simultaneously on CNN, CNN International, and can also be streamed online at cnn.com. Remarkably, this is the first time a live Broadway play is being televised, and it won’t require a cable login to watch it on digital platforms.”
Or simply:
“On Saturday, June 7th at 7 p.m. ET, ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ will present its penultimate performance live from Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre. This special event will air simultaneously on CNN, CNN International, and online at cnn.com without the need for a cable login. It’s worth noting that this is the first time a live Broadway play will be televised.
George Clooney expressed, “I can’t express enough how thrilling it is to undertake something unprecedented. CNN offers the ideal platform to share this tale of bravery with a much larger audience than we had ever dreamed possible. This is going live, no safety net – hold on tight, everyone!
In the stage production, Clooney first appeared on Broadway as Murrow, depicting his groundbreaking televised confrontation with Senator Joseph McCarthy and his anti-Communist campaign. As McCarthyism casts a dark veil over America, Murrow and his news team decide to challenge the rising tide of fear and misinformation, knowing it could lead to opposition from the government and an anxious nation. The play “Good Night, and Good Luck” concludes its run with a matinee performance in New York City on Sunday, June 8.
After the broadcast of the show, CNN plans to hold a unique “Good Night, and Good Luck” special discussion, focusing on analyzing the play and the current status of worldwide journalism.
Mark Thompson, CEO of CNN, stated that ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ is not merely a tribute to a golden era of television journalism; it is also a reminder of the crucial role of a free press in our society. Strong news organizations, he emphasized, must continue to deliver facts impartially.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that ‘Good Night, and Good Luck,’ starring the talented George Clooney, not only garnered five Tony Award nominations but also saw him nominated for Leading Actor in a Play. This extraordinary play, skillfully directed by David Cromer, who has previously won a Tony, made history by becoming Broadway’s highest-grossing play ever! It was the first production to earn over $4 million in a single week. In just seven weeks, ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ recouped its initial investment of $9.5 million on Broadway. To further inspire the next generation of journalists, this remarkable production partnered with TodayTix to provide free tickets for 2,000 New York City high school students.
As a movie enthusiast, I had the pleasure of reviewing “Good Night, and Good Luck,” a compelling production penned jointly by George Clooney and Grant Heslov. The brilliant minds behind this project were Seaview, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Jean Doumanian, and Robert Fox. This film is not to be missed!
