Clint Eastwood’s highly-regarded film, released in 1993, is becoming less accessible. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, the movie features Eastwood as a Secret Service agent—a departure from his Western roles—and stars John Malkovich as a dangerous antagonist.
Currently, you can watch the movie In the Line of Fire on Tubi in the U.S. for free. However, it’s listed as leaving the platform soon, so this free viewing option won’t last forever.
It’s unclear exactly when “In the Line of Fire” will be removed from Tubi, but it could happen as early as February 1st. Many streaming services update their content on the first of the month, adding new movies and shows while taking others down. However, the film starring Clint Eastwood might stay available on Tubi for a little while longer.
With a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, In the Line of Fire stars Clint Eastwood as Frank Horrigan, a Secret Service agent still troubled by his inability to protect President Kennedy. He’s now dedicated to preventing another assassination. Critics particularly praised the film’s suspense and the actors’ performances, with John Malkovich often singled out for his standout work.
In the movie, John Malkovich plays Mitch Leary, known as “Booth,” a former CIA agent who is determined to kill the president. Both the character and Malkovich’s acting received a lot of praise for being subtly powerful, believable, and genuinely frightening. He appears with Rene Russo, Dylan McDermott, and Gary Cole as part of the cast.
If the movie is no longer available on Tubi, you can still watch it by purchasing or renting it from services like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. It’s likely the classic Eastwood film will eventually be available on another streaming service, but its next home hasn’t been announced yet.
Following the critically acclaimed Unforgiven in 1992, Clint Eastwood released In the Line of Fire. Unforgiven is now considered a defining film in Eastwood’s career, and these two movies marked a strong comeback for him in the early 1990s. Both were also financially successful, earning $187 million and $159 million at the box office, respectively.
I’m still amazed that Clint Eastwood, at 95, is still working in Hollywood! He just directed Juror #2 in 2024, and before that, he both directed and starred in Cry Macho back in 2021. Who knows if he’ll make another movie, but it feels like the perfect time to re-watch In the Line of Fire while it’s still available to stream for free.
