Clayface Trailer Gets the Same Reactions From DC Viewers

The initial trailer for the upcoming Clayface movie received a positive response after being shown at CinemaCon. As the third film in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, it’s expected to hit theaters later this year.

DC fans are hyped after Clayface’s CinemaCon trailer

A trailer for the new horror film, Clayface, was recently shown at CinemaCon. The movie centers around Matt Hagen, an actor whose face is severely damaged by a criminal. Desperate for a solution, he turns to a scientist who performs experimental procedures on him. These procedures change his body, turning him into a shapeshifting creature made of clay.

The video features Tom Rhys Harries as Hagen, showcasing his skills, and is set to the song “Do You Realize” by The Flaming Lips. It also highlights the film’s disturbing and unsettling physical transformations.

The trailer received a lot of positive feedback, with viewers sharing their enthusiasm. One person called it a personal standout, describing it as unsettling and disturbing, but in a way that explored themes of beauty, fame, and the psychology behind them. They also noted similarities to the style of early Blumhouse films and the work of director Andrew Kevin Walker, as well as other horror movies. Many fans specifically praised the design of the character Clayface, calling it impressive.

I saw Jeff Sneider’s reaction to the new DCU film, and honestly, it totally resonated with me. He said it looked amazing, and what really got me was him saying he prefers this darker, grittier take on superhero movies. He’s not into the overly bright, fantastical stuff – he wants something messed up and real, and that’s exactly what I’m hoping for too. He put it perfectly when he said he’s ‘in’!

Scott Menzel promised fans that the Clayface story would offer a different experience than the typically humorous style of James Gunn’s DC films. He described it as genuinely frightening and a fresh addition to the DC universe.

That Hashtag Show praised the new look of Clayface, calling it unlike anything DC has created before, and highlighting its monstrous and genuinely frightening visuals. They shared this reaction from #CinemaCon.

The new movie, Clayface, will debut in the United States on October 23, 2026, just in time for Halloween. James Watkins directed the film, which was written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. James Gunn, Peter Safran, Matt Reeves, and Lynn Harris all served as producers.

The film stars Naomie Ackie, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, David Dencik, and also includes a performance by Harries.
