Filming for the movie Clayface is underway in Liverpool, and decorations appearing around the city are giving fans hints about what to expect from the DC Universe moving forward.
The upcoming superhero movie, Clayface, promises to be a genuinely frightening experience. Directed by James Watkins, known for horror films like *The Woman in Black*, and co-written by Mike Flanagan (*Gerald’s Game*, *Doctor Sleep*), it’s intended for mature audiences and will be rated R.
The movie features Tom Rhys Harris as the main character, an actor who is badly disfigured. Then, through a series of experiments, his body is transformed into clay.
Movie set posters hint at the introduction of ‘The Fly Graysons,’ likely setting up Robin’s appearance. Additionally, an ad points to a fresh interpretation of a classic Batman enemy.

The Penguin was first seen in the 1960s Batman television series and film. Later, Danny DeVito gave a memorable performance as the villain Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin) in the movie Batman Returns.
Colin Farrell recently portrayed Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin, in both *The Batman* film and the subsequent TV series. His take on the character was notably more realistic and down-to-earth.
Recent set photos from the Clayface production (shared on Instagram by Chimichangaprod) suggest that this new universe features a much more monstrous take on the Penguin character.
The advertisements show a drawing of a man dressed like a penguin looking at a real penguin. Above and below the image, it says: ‘Behold, the one and only Penguin Man – now at Amusement Mile.’

Amusement Mile is a popular amusement park featured in both DC Comics and the Birds of Prey movie.
As a big fan of *The Penguin* as portrayed in the HBO show, I’m a little worried about him being just a sideshow attraction in the park. It feels like they’d be turning him into someone people just point at and make fun of, which is totally different from the complex, compelling character we see on TV. It just doesn’t feel right!
Similar to the Flying Graysons painting, this detail might simply be a colorful addition to Clayface’s story. However, it could also be foreshadowing a darker, more heartbreaking introduction of the Penguin into the DC Universe.
