As a seasoned RPG enthusiast with decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has piqued my interest like no other title in recent memory. The blend of turn-based strategy and real-time elements is a refreshing twist on the genre, and the reactive battle system promises to keep me on the edge of my seat.
At the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 event in June, Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive unveiled their eagerly awaited turn-based RPG titled Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Earlier today, Alex shared his latest impressions after a hands-off play session.
In the fresh footage of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, much of what Alex had discussed comes alive. Characters journey through stunning landscapes and encounter adversaries as they progress, all while engaging in a tactical, turn-based combat system that responds to their actions. Quick Time Event (QTE) prompts during attacks can boost the damage inflicted by players, but when it’s the enemy’s turn, players have multiple defensive strategies at their disposal, which they can activate just before an enemy strikes their party members.
Characters have the option to either dodge or block incoming attacks, and some may even counterattack if their defensive moves are successful. According to Alex, it’s feasible for players to navigate combat situations without needing to execute every action flawlessly. This means that those who find these mechanics a bit challenging can still advance at their own pace.
Check out the latest gameplay clips of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 further below. This title is set to release in 2025, compatible with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It will also be available on Game Pass on its launch day.
