As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the addition of Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli as a playable leader in Civilization 7 has me absolutely thrilled! Having spent countless hours studying political strategy and diplomacy in the real world, I can’t wait to put those lessons into practice in this new game.
In the upcoming Civilization 7 broadcast, a fresh First Look video has been released, unveiling a leader set to debut next year – Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli. Known for his deceit and betrayal towards his closest associates, Machiavelli’s name gained a sinister new meaning. Now, players can select Machiavelli as one of the leaders in Civilization 7. If you aim to win through deception, dishonesty, and thievery, your ideal guide has arrived.
Civ 7 First Look Adds Machiavelli ss the Latest New Leader
In the new version of Civilization (Civ 7), severing the traditional ties between leaders and civilizations has provided an opportunity to introduce distinctive leaders who didn’t quite fit into previous games. For example, while Italy has been present in various scenarios across earlier games, and Florence was a culture City-State in Civilization 5, it is only with Guiseppe Garibaldi that Italy had a leader attached to it. This time around, we might see new Italian leaders being introduced.
It’s not confirmed yet if Italy will appear in Civilization 7, but based on what we’ve seen so far, it looks quite likely. Civilizations have been hinted at through First Look videos, but all the released content stops with the Exploration Age. With the upcoming Exploration Age livestream, there’s a good chance that Italy might be one of the undisclosed civilizations for either the Exploration Age or even the Modern Age.
In an exclusive first glance at the new character, Machiavelli, they propose Greece during the Ancient Era and the Normans during the Discovery Period as possible picks for this new leader. Regardless of the choice made by players, it’s evident that Machiavelli will continue to symbolize the enduring essence of his namesake. A person or thing that exhibits cunningness, plotting, and ruthlessness (particularly in politics) can still be labeled as Machiavellian today.
As a devotee of cunning strategies, I’d say Machiavelli stands out as the most unreliable leader in history when it comes to trust. In Civilization 7, he offers a distinct advantage – a secretive knack for undermining allies and creating unique paths to betrayal that other leaders can’t match.
- Il Principe: Gain additional Influence per Age. Gain a set amount of Gold per Age when your Diplomatic Action proposals are accepted, or even more Gold per Age when they are rejected. Ignore Relationship requirements for declaring Formal Wars. You can Levy Military Units from City-States you are not Suzerain of.
In Civilization 7, having the ability to declare formal wars even when you have friendly ties with another leader can prove incredibly beneficial. Additionally, receiving additional wealth from rejected proposals makes testing the limits of what other leaders will tolerate more enticing. If your military ever requires reinforcements, not being the suzerain won’t hinder your ability to levy units – a significant advantage. Whether you prefer a diplomatic approach or wish to exploit diplomacy for wealth and conquest, Machiavelli might just be the ideal choice in Civilization 7.
