Civilization 7 is not doing well on Steam. Classic maps and big changes aim to reverse the trend

This year in February, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII was launched, but it ended up falling short of expectations. Ever since its release, Firaxis Studio has been working diligently to rectify the game through updates.

The newest update, identified as version 1.2.1, introduces an exciting new map (Pangea Plus), enhances the artificial intelligence, balance, and user interface, and boosts the maximum number of players allowed in multiplayer games.

In simpler terms, Pangea refers to a specific kind of map that many fans of older games will recognize. This map features a single large continent, making it ideal for gamers who prefer games centered around warfare.

The next big patch will be released in June

The developers have shared details about the upcoming major update due out in June, and it looks like this release will introduce numerous new features.

  1. the creators will finally add support for huge maps;
  2. full support for Steam Workshop will be implemented;
  3. the developers will expand the gameplay configuration options;
  4. new religious beliefs will appear, bonuses for city-states and city specializations;
  5. there will also be no shortage of gameplay balance adjustments and interface improvements.

The new game in the Civilization series, titled Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, came out on February 11th this year for multiple platforms like PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and newer consoles like Xbox Series S, X, and PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been well-received – right now, it has only 48% positive reviews on Steam. What’s more troubling is that recent players are expressing dissatisfaction with the game’s development pace, which means that only 38% of the latest reviews have been favorable towards this new installment in the series.

Even Civilization V is doing better than Civ VII

The quality of play in this series, as indicated by poor reception, has resulted in less than ideal activity outcomes. Yesterday, a staggering 8717 individuals enjoyed ‘Civilization VII’ concurrently on Steam, whereas for its sixth installment, that number skyrocketed to 36,174. Furthermore, the interest in ‘Civilization VII’ is rapidly dwindling. Intriguingly, even ‘Civilization V’ is currently experiencing a surge in popularity; yesterday, 16,229 people played it simultaneously.
