Over the weekend, a Minecraft film made a big splash, creating quite a buzz, however, movie theaters had to caution viewers, even issuing a specific warning regarding the “character riding a chicken,” or in simpler terms, the “chicken jockey.
Indeed, questioning the success of a Minecraft movie seemed rather unwise. Given that it’s based on the highest-selling video game ever, and with a massive promotional campaign leading up to its release – from viral TikTok trends to exclusive merchandise at McDonald’s – it was bound to generate significant interest.
Initially, no one anticipated its enormous success in the first weekend. Yet, it’s already earned more than $300 million globally – a figure that surpasses Inside Out’s opening of $295 million. Remarkably, Inside Out eventually grossed close to $1.7 billion. In essence, this suggests we might be looking at another film reaching the billion-dollar mark.
One issue that has arisen is the disorderly conduct of audience members during screenings, which at times has escalated so much that police intervention was required to close down one particular showing. This unfortunate incident occurred after several spectators recklessly tossed popcorn and soda into the air.
Theater’s “chicken jockey” warning confuses Minecraft fans
If you haven’t joined the excitement of a screening for a Minecraft movie yet, let me fill you in: In a scene featuring Jack Black as Steve and Jason Momoa as Garrett, a Minecraft chicken shaped like a cube (and carrying a baby zombie) unexpectedly appears in a boxing ring.
People have started to mimic Steve by shouting “chicken jockey!” and then throwing whatever food they have nearby onto their screens, making a mess of them, when he says it.

According to posts on X/Twitter and Reddit, a particular theater has taken action against the current craze of “chicken jockeys” (the exact chain and location remain undisclosed).
Even though the chicken jockey is amazing, we kindly ask you not to toss popcorn or drinks towards the screen.
It appears that there might be a mix-up: the lower text seems intended to convey, “Chickens dislike showers, and so do our staff.
Chickens take a shower and they’re not fond of it, neither are our staff.
Chickens are given showers and they dislike them, the same goes for our team.
In simpler terms, one user believed that the text might have been created by an AI and found it odd due to the repetition of “shower” in different font sizes and the peculiar term “chicken jockey.” Another humorously commented that they struggled understanding the smaller line.
Regardless of the chaos, it’s tackling a genuine concern. As one user shared from their viewing experience, “Frankly, it has turned into a significant issue. Last Friday, I was there, and I swear on every word I’m saying that at least ten times throughout the audience joined in with the cheers, claps, and line recitations in unison.
A buddy of mine, who’s employed at a theater, shared that during the opening night, chaos erupted as around twenty teenagers started applauding and cheering at “Chicken Jockey.” This behavior continued throughout the movie, with them shouting “absolute cinema” repeatedly. It seems we’re living in quite an eccentric era!
Just remember: chickens showers.
