Fiona Dourif, currently appearing in the HBO series The Pitt, is heading back to horror films. This new role also means a return to the Chucky movie series for the well-known actress.
Per Dourif is joining the cast of the upcoming horror film, A Head Full of Ghosts. She’ll appear alongside David Harbour (known for Stranger Things), Rebecca Hall (The Beauty), Esmé Creed-Miles (The Doll Factory), Bodhi Rae Breathnatch (Hamnet), and newcomer Hollie-Hill Pearson. The movie is based on the play by Paul Tremblay, and Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, who previously worked on Goodnight Mommy and The Devil’s Bath, are writing and directing.
A Head Full of Ghosts follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their teenage daughter begins to struggle with mental illness, all captured on a reality TV show. Years later, the daughter’s sister, Merry, confronts her family’s troubled history as a journalist investigates what truly happened. Fiona and Dourif will portray the parents, while Hill-Pearson and Creed-Miles will play Merry at different ages. Breathnach will play Marjorie, Merry’s older sister.
Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s production company, Team Downey, is partnering with Fifth Season and The Allegiance Theater to create the film. David Gambino and Daniel Dubiecki, along with Lara Alameddine, are also producing. Scott O’Brien and Brandon Hill at Lionsgate are managing the project, after Lionsgate recently acquired it from Fifth Season.
As a horror fan, I’ve really come to appreciate Jennifer Dourif, especially for her work as Nica Pierce in the Chucky series. It’s cool that she’s Brad Dourif’s daughter – he is the voice of Chucky, after all! She first jumped into the franchise with Curse of Chucky back in 2013, and then came back for Cult of Chucky in 2017. She’s been a recurring face in the Chucky TV show too, which just wrapped up after three seasons this year. But she’s not just horror – I’ve spotted her in stuff like Tenet and Psychonaut, and she’s been in a ton of great TV shows over the years, including Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, True Blood, The Stand, Deadwood, and The Blacklist.
Brad Dourif currently stars as Dr. Cassie McKay in the HBO series The Pitt, which is finishing up its second season and has already been renewed for a third. Recently, Dourif and the rest of the cast won an Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Despite some changes to the cast for Season 3, Dourif is expected to reprise her role as Cassie when the popular show returns.
A Head Full of Ghosts does not yet have an official release date at this time.
