‘Chrysalis’ Wraps in Vietnam with First-Look Images and an Epic War Drama

The principal photography for the international film titled “Chrysalis,” set in Vietnam, has been completed, and the team has unveiled the initial photos from the filming process.

The movie, co-produced by Sir Daniel K. Winn’s WS Productions and Vietnamese producer Trương Ngọc Ánh, has just finished filming at various locations in Vietnam. This included the creation of a detailed village set to accurately portray the 1970s era for the storyline.

In the tumultuous 1970s Vietnam, the narrative of “Chrysalis” unfolds, centering around a clever child struggling to find his bearings amidst a disorderly world. His journey is shaped by the sage advice of his grandmother, while he grapples with ghosts from his shattered family’s past. The tale is based on Winn’s real-life experiences during his youth, derived from his upcoming autobiography.

88-year-old acclaimed actress Kieu Chinh, renowned for her performances in “The Joy Luck Club” and award-winning documentaries, has come back to Vietnam after over a decade, taking on a central role as the grandmother in a new project alongside Nguyen Vu Uy Nhan and Winn.

The show is helmed by Jordan Schulz and boasts a global production team comprising David Hopwood, Tiến Phạm, Winn, and executive producer Randall J. Slavin.

Trương Ngọc Ánh, the renowned Vietnamese filmmaker known for movies such as “The White Silk Dress,” “Hương Ga,” and “Abduction,” served as the head of Vietnam’s film production.

Trương Ngọc Ánh stated: “This project is both intriguing and demanding, but I am confident that with everyone’s hard work, enthusiasm, and skill, we will successfully translate this vision onto the screen in a captivating manner. We eagerly anticipate the film’s premiere in the U.S., Vietnam, and various other countries globally.

For Winn and Slavin, partners at the art firm Winn Slavin Fine Art in Beverly Hills, “Chrysalis” signifies their ongoing venture into cinema, building upon their acclaimed short films “Creation” and “Ectropy”, which are parts of a trilogy delving into concepts of chaos, order, and human existence, stemming from Winn’s artistic ideology of existential surrealism.

Winn stated, ‘Vietnam holds a wealth of cultural depth and visual splendor.’ It’s a privilege to collaborate with Trương Ngọc Ánh and her group on the creation of ‘Chrysalis’. This film serves not just as a creative venture but also as a bridge connecting Vietnam’s lively artistic scene with international spectators.
