Christmas Dramedy ‘Breakup Season’ Lands Distribution From Buffalo 8, Releases First Trailer (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned moviegoer who has experienced more than a fair share of breakups during the holiday season, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming release of “Breakup Season.” The trailer promises a unique blend of drama and comedy that resonates deeply with my own experiences, and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year to break up.

Over the festive season in rural Oregon, I find myself returning home with my girlfriend, Samantha Isler, for a family reunion during Christmas. However, an evening dispute leads to our unfortunate breakup. To my surprise, winter’s relentless grip leaves us stranded, with my ex-girlfriend unexpectedly staying put at my family’s house for the remainder of the holiday season.

The independent holiday comedy-drama penned and directed by H. Nelson Tracey is set to have a restricted cinematic debut starting from November 15 in certain locations such as Los Angeles, Tulsa, Portland (Oregon), Oklahoma City, and others.

Excitedly, I can’t wait for “Breakup Season” to hit our screens again! After wrapping up its theatrical run, this gripping movie will be available for TVOD (Transactional Video On Demand) on December 6th, streaming across major platforms and cable operators worldwide. Buffalo 8 has been entrusted with handling the global VOD and streaming rights, while Static Films is producing the film. So, mark your calendars and get ready to experience this emotional rollercoaster all over again!

The agreement was facilitated by Jacob Silvera, the director of distribution and acquisitions at Buffalo 8, and Stephen Mastrocola, a co-founder and producer at Static Films.

Tracy expressed that the first breakup is a significant, life-altering event, similar to grief. She hadn’t found movies that accurately portrayed this early 20s breakup experience, which she believes is crucial in the contemporary journey of growing up. Her intention was to present this honestly, incorporating humor but emphasizing a sense of realism rarely seen in holiday-themed productions. This authenticity helped her create something relatable yet unique.

The movie has earned 29 awards during its run on the film festival circuit. It features Jacob Wysocki, who you might recognize from “Pitch Perfect,” James Urbaniak of “Oppenheimer,” Carly Stewart, Brook Hogan, and Kailey Rhodes, all of whom have appeared in “The Way We Speak.

Riggs is primarily recognized for his eight-season portrayal of Carl on “The Walking Dead.” Isler was featured as a younger character based on Jessica Chastain in Aaron Sorkin’s “Molly’s Game,” sharing the screen with Viggo Mortensen in “Captain Fantastic,” which garnered the cast a SAG nomination for outstanding ensemble performance. In the past, he has appeared in shows like “Sean Saves the World,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Supernatural.
