Chris Pine to Star in First Italian-Speaking Role in ‘The Kidnapping of Arabella’

As a seasoned film enthusiast with a penchant for exploring diverse cinematic landscapes, I can hardly contain my excitement about Chris Pine taking on an Italian-speaking role in “The Kidnapping of Arabella.” Having spent a few summers in Tuscany and dabbling in the language during my travels, I’m intrigued by his decision to confuse words between Spanish and Italian, adding an unexpected layer of authenticity to the role.

Actor Chris Pine will be part of the cast for the movie “The Kidnapping of Arabella,” taking on a role that requires him to speak Italian.

The movie, titled “Amanda’s Successor,” is penned and helmed by up-and-coming Italian director Carolina Cavalli, serving as her follow-up to her debut film “Amanda.” This film, classified as a “dramedy,” narrates the tale of a young woman who believes she isn’t the genuine version of herself.

Actress Bendetta Porcaroli, previously seen in “Amanda,” is collaborating with Cavalli once more. This time, she will portray the character of Holly – an unconventional young woman troubled by a discomfort in her own body. Believing herself to be an incorrect version of herself, a serendipitous meeting with a 7-year-old child inspires Holly to reconsider her beliefs.

Production is set to start this week in Northern Italy.

Pine, who is fluent in Spanish as well, shared with the Spanish magazine Vanidades earlier this year that he’s currently studying Italian, occasionally getting tripped up by similar words in both languages.

Previously this month, it was exclusively disclosed by EbMaster that “The Kidnapping of Arabella” had been planned after the achievement of “Amanda,” a quirky arrested development comedy with absurdist elements, which made its way to both Venice and Toronto film festivals about two years ago.

“Cavalli expressed that he finds joy in a story where solitary individuals unite to tackle an issue, as they’ve already conquered the most significant challenge – loneliness. He shared this sentiment with EbMaster three weeks ago, expressing his excitement and gratitude for the chance to be part of it.”

Annamaria Morelli, CEO of The Apartment, stated: “Carolina’s upcoming film fits perfectly with my plans for The Apartment. On one side, I plan to maintain our reputation for producing high-quality films featuring top Italian talent like Paolo Sorrentino and Luca Guadagnino. At the same time, we will continue to produce large-scale collaborative projects with international partners and work on prime intellectual properties from around the globe.”

“The film titled ‘The Kidnapping of Arabella’ was jointly produced by Elsinore Film and Fremantle’s The Apartment. Antonio Celsi from Elsinore and Annamaria Morelli from The Apartment served as the producers.”

Chris Pine is repped by CAA, John Carrabino Management and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham.
