As a dedicated fan who’s been following Chris Pine‘s career since his debut as Nicholas in “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” I must admit that it’s rather amusing to see him play the clueless one about the third installment of this cherished franchise. It’s like Mia Thermopolis herself has taken over his life and left him oblivious to all things Princess Diaries!
Chris Pine is unsure about “The Princess Diaries 3” as it was recently confirmed by EbMaster that the movie is under development at Disney. Notably, Chris Pine made his film acting debut in the sequel “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” in 2004, where he played Nicholas, Mia Thermopolis’s (Anne Hathaway) gradual love interest. Since the movie ended with their characters together, “The Princess Diaries 3” would either need to feature Chris Pine or find a way to account for Nicholas’ absence.
Pine admitted during an appearance on ‘Today With Hoda & Jenna’ that he doesn’t have any information regarding a potential third ‘Princess Diaries’ movie. He suggested reaching out to Disney and Bob Iger for updates.
Today, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager appeared astonished that Pine was unaware about the sequel. “You have no idea?” Hager questioned. (In a more casual tone: Today, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager seemed surprised to learn that Pine wasn’t in the loop about the sequel. “Don’t you know anything?” Hager asked.)
Pine remarked, ‘I must examine it, for I’m clueless about the matter. Yet, it seems extraordinary.’
The production of “Princess Diaries 3” is progressing, with Adele Lim, who has worked on “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Joyride”, set to direct. Flora Greeson is currently penning the script. So far, specifics about the plot are under wraps, but it appears that this third installment will carry forward the narrative from the 2001 film “The Princess Diaries” and its 2004 sequel “Royal Engagement”, rather than serving as a series reboot.
