Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe were treated to an unexpected look at Chris Hemsworth‘s unconventional hairstyle during filming for “Avengers: Doomsday”. The renowned actor is slated to play a significant role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming movie focusing on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, joining a star-studded cast boasting more than two dozen major figures from the MCU.
A fresh photo revealed on the set of Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” features Chris Hemsworth sporting a shorter hairdo, marking a change from the long, golden locks he’s been known for during his years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The upcoming film may provide an opportunity for Thor to try a hairstyle that has appeared in just two of his 14 MCU films.
Bobby Hanton, the stunt double, posted a photo on Instagram with some fellow members of the “Doomsday” team and cast, showcasing Chris Hemsworth without his signature long blond hair.
As a devoted cinephile, I ponder if Chris Hemsworth’s current haircut is the right choice for him. If he were to maintain this style, it would mark only the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe film where his character doesn’t sport the long, flowing blonde locks cascading down to his shoulders.
In the movie “Thor: Ragnarok”, Stan Lee’s Sakaarian barber ceremoniously cut off Thor’s long hair. This short hairstyle remained throughout “Avengers: Infinity War” and initial scenes in “Avengers: Endgame”. Fans were thrilled by this new look after watching him sport the same long hairstyle in his first four films, making a potential return of that hairdo all the more intriguing.
Chris Hemsworth was initially revealed as part of a cast of 27 actors for “Avengers: Doomsday” in March, marking his 10th live-action portrayal of the God of Thunder. In the movie, he will be among the seasoned characters squaring off against Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Doctor Doom. Hemsworth is set to join forces with heroes drawn from various eras in Marvel’s narrative universe.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently being filmed, and it will debut in theaters on May 1, 2026.
Will Chris Hemsworth Actually Have Short Hair in Avengers: Doomsday?
In these images, Chris Hemsworth appears with short hair, but it doesn’t automatically mean that Thor will sport the same hairstyle in “Avengers: Doomsday“. It’s crucial to keep in mind that Hemsworth has been wearing a wig for his long-haired look throughout every film where he portrays Thor.
It’s worth mentioning that Hemsworth himself prefers the short hairstyle over any other hair style he sports in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While reminiscing about his chat with Marvel, he mentioned that sporting the big hairstyle and beard in “Avengers: Endgame” was something he appreciated, but also described it as the most challenging appearance he’s ever donned. Moreover, acknowledging how that voluminous mane added an additional hour or two to his hair and makeup routine each day, he expressed gratitude for being able to skip that with a shorter do:.
Sporting a short hairstyle is something I appreciate, particularly with the semi-dreadlocked look combined with a beard, especially in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ However, that style was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever experienced. It involved applying glue to my face and beard, followed by a wig that was also glued on. There were pins and various other accessories as well. This added an extra hour or two each day for hair and makeup, so I was delighted when Thor’s hair was cut short in the third film, allowing me to skip the extensive grooming process and walk directly onto set. When we started working on the fourth film, we chose to give Thor long hair again.
With filming for “Avengers: Doomsday” starting on April 28, there’s a possibility Hemsworth might be hiding his iconic long hairstyle. Notably, in his latest appearance in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” he sported that longer haircut while playing the role of father to Gorr the God Butcher’s daughter, Love.
Additionally, it’s possible that various versions of Thor might make an appearance, as the film delves into the intricacies of the multiverse featuring groups such as the X-Men and Fantastic Four. It wouldn’t be surprising to encounter both long-haired and short-haired Thors on screen.
Currently, the shooting for the movie “Doomsday” is carrying on over the upcoming several months, while fans speculate about how the character of the God of Thunder will appear once he returns.
