Ethan Coen’s “Honey Don’t!” ended the 2025 Cannes Film Festival with a bang on May 23, as Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza dazzled on the red carpet. However, the film’s main star, Chris Evans, was not present. So, where was he? It seems that Captain America prioritized his family over attending one of the world’s most esteemed film festivals.
A few days following the screening of “Honey Dont!” as the last movie in Cannes’ official selection, Evans shared his location on Instagram (via People). In a post on his account, he said: “I regretted not being able to join my remarkable cast and crew at Cannes, but it was my mother’s 70th birthday, an occasion I couldn’t skip! Congratulations everyone!”
After the final screening of “Honey Dont!” in Cannes’ official selection, Evans posted on Instagram (as reported by People) about his whereabouts. He wrote: “I really wanted to be with my fantastic cast and team at Cannes, but it was my mother’s 70th birthday, a celebration I couldn’t miss! Congratulations everyone!
Honey Don’t!” sees Qually taking on the role of Honey O’Donahue, a private detective in a quaint town, investigating a string of peculiar deaths linked to a puzzling church. Evans delivers an exaggerated comedic portrayal as the church’s charismatic yet sinister minister. Plaza plays a cop with whom Qually shares a passionate romance that eventually sours. Charlie Day and Billy Eichner complete the ensemble cast. “Honey Don’t!” represents the second joint project by Coen and Qually, following their 2021 road trip crime comedy, “Drive-Away Dolls.
At the premiere of “Honey Don’t!” during Cannes, the movie sparked a lively response from the crowd, resulting in a prolonged 6-minute standing ovation. Audience members enthusiastically applauded and cheered for Plaza and Qualley. Jack Antanoff, Qualley’s husband and music producer, was present at the event. Coen shared with the audience that the movie’s reception marked an enjoyable conclusion to the festival.
“The film ‘Honey Don’t,’ directed by Focus Features, will premiere in U.S. theaters on August 22. This is one of two independent films scheduled for Sam Evans this summer. The other film, titled ‘Materialists,’ is a romantic drama from A24 and writer-director Celine Song. It stars Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal and will debut in theaters on June 13.”
