Choi Min-sik, Choi Hyun-wook Lead Netflix’s Korean Drama ‘Notes From the Last Row’

Netflix has approved a new Korean series titled “Notes From the Last Row,” which is set to offer psychological suspense with a star-studded cast featuring Choi Min-sik and Choi Hyun-wook. This series will be an adaptation of the acclaimed Spanish play “El Chico de la última fila” tailored for Korean viewers.

The story revolves around Heo Mun-oh, a disgruntled literature professor and author, whose creativity seems to have faded over time. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Lee Kang, a mysterious student who often sits in the back of the classroom but showcases remarkable literary abilities.

Experienced actor Choi Min-sik, having recently starred in “Exhuma” and “Big Bet,” steps into the part of Heo Mun-oh. The narrative unfolds as he becomes intrigued by a unique writing assignment submitted by Lee Kang, which catches his eye among all others, leading him to guide the enigmatic student.

Emerging talent Choi Hyun-wook, who became well-known due to “Weak Hero Class 1” and “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” takes on the role of Lee Kang, a student in engineering harboring exceptional literary skills hidden from view. Under Mun-oh’s tutelage, Lee Kang embarks on a more complex journey marked by his mentor’s growing obsession with his talent.

The ensemble additionally features Huh Joon-ho (“Buried Hearts,” “Noryang: Deadly Sea”), who portrays Kim Su-hun, a well-known author friend of Mun-oh’s who exudes a nonchalant self-assurance born from his literary acclaim. Su-hun embodies what Mun-oh yearns to become, providing inspiration while also fueling a covert sense of envy that has left Mun-oh feeling consistently outmatched and defeated.

In the upcoming series, Kim Yun-jin, recognized globally for her work in “Lost” and “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” will portray Ahn Eun-joo, who is married to Su-hun’s character. Additionally, Jin Kyung, famed for her roles in “Veteran” and “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” joins the cast as Jo Hyeon-suk, the wife of Mun-oh, a character with whom she shares psychological sessions.

Off-screen, Director Kim Gyu-tae employs his skill in crafting psychologically engaging narratives, a talent showcased in past works like “The Trunk” and “Our Blues.” The script is penned by Jang Myung-woo, renowned for writing the film “My Mother, the Mermaid.”)

Kakao Entertainment and Gtist are working together on a TV show that’s now being made. A rehearsal with the main actors for this production, known as a “table read,” has just been finished.
