Chinese Snack Company Faces Backlash for Streaming Employees Working on Weekends

A Chinese snack manufacturer is encountering criticism following the broadcast of employees working in the office on weekends.

At work, you wouldn’t typically anticipate your company to stream you live to the public, yet this was the case for workers at the Chinese snack wholesaler, Miaohuo Net.

As reported by Live Mint, the Zhengzhou-based company demonstrated that their 15 employees were actively working via a real-time video streaming application.

As a gamer, I’d say it like this: “I stand behind our approach, which isn’t new to us. By broadcasting our team’s work from the office, we aim to maintain honesty and transparency, building trust with our customers.

Streaming office employees sparks backlash

Despite the constant visibility of the cameras and no staff voicing concerns, complaints on social media painted a contrasting picture, with some likening the environment to livestreams from popular tourist attractions.

“How can any employee voice dissatisfaction in this environment?” one remarked.

One might rephrase as follows: “We feel like we’re working under strict management, with little room to refuse instructions.” Another agreed.

At Miaohuo Net, most staff members enjoy their weekends off. However, certain team members, like those who work in streaming, are given additional compensation for working on their days off to complete assigned tasks.

According to Xing, it’s a long-standing tradition for their team to stream during weekends, and they have no plans to change this, even though some people online have expressed concerns about it.

Indeed, as reported by the South China Morning Post, Miaohuo Net has established several social media platforms to highlight their team members and consistently boost the company’s image using brief videos like TikTok and various other content types.

The company owner clarified that while some businesses may only appear to have an internal team by outsourcing tasks, our company genuinely employs a committed group of individuals.
