A renowned mathematical prodigy from China swiftly gained immense fame, amassing more than 20 million followers within mere days following his debut on social media platforms, after sharing a brief four-second video clip.
33-year-old Wei Dongyi, a mathematics professor at Peking University, had an early start as a prodigy, with inspiration from his mathematician father.
Wei Dongyi, aged 33 and a math professor at Peking University, was exceptionally gifted in math, thanks to his dad who was also a math professor.
Based on Shine’s information, Wei achieved top scores and won gold medals in the 49th and 50th International Mathematical Olympiads. As a result of his impressive achievements, he was granted direct admission into Peking University, exempting him from the need to take the university entrance exam.
At only 28 years old, he completed his doctorate degree, and to add to that impressive achievement, he had already published numerous academic papers. Not only was his intelligence highly regarded, but also his simple way of life won him the endearing moniker ‘God Wei.’
On the 4th of June, I hopped onto Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, and it turned out to be a game-changer for me! Right from the start, I was warmly welcomed by the community, and soon enough, I found myself trending on the platform. What a thrilling experience that was!

The math star also doesn’t plan to start streaming out of fear that his content will be misused.
As a gamer speaking up about it, I must admit that while I appreciate the content of the latest stream, there’s been a bit of unease among fans. Some viewers have expressed their concern over the presenter’s physical appearance, mentioning his thin body and missing teeth. Others have gone as far as urging the university to take action for the faculty member’s wellbeing.
The school disclosed that Wei has health concerns, and they sometimes go with Wei to doctor’s visits.
As an avid follower, I must admit, the meteoric rise of Wei on social media, given his under-the-radar status, leaves me truly astounded. It’s fascinating, even in comparison to football titan Cristiano Ronaldo, to witness such a remarkable growth trajectory.
2024 saw me, a die-hard fan, experiencing an exhilarating moment when, within mere hours of its debut, my hero, Ronaldo, surpassed 18.6 million subscribers on his newly launched YouTube channel!
