Tang Feiji, a content creator from China, tragically died at the age of 55 on September 27th. He crashed his small airplane while livestreaming a flight, according to several reports from local news sources.
Feiji, a social media personality with approximately 100,000 followers on Douyin, was livestreaming when he had an accident with an ultralight aircraft. According to reports from China News Service (CNS) and Cover News, hundreds of people were watching his broadcast at the time of the crash.
Social media videos depicted the Feiji aircraft taking off, flying for a short time, and then unexpectedly falling to the ground, after which it caught fire. According to Cover News, officials have stated that the crash did not cause any additional damage to the surrounding area.
Details about the aircraft
In previous videos, Feiji mentioned he bought the one-person vehicle for 350,000 Chinese Yuan (around $49,000 USD). He explained that the aircraft weighs a little more than 250 pounds and can fly to heights of almost 2,000 feet, reaching speeds exceeding 60 miles per hour, as reported by CNS.
Feiji stated he quickly learned to operate the controls, reportedly within six hours of practice. Following the incident, his social media accounts were made private.
He’s not the only Chinese influencer who has died while broadcasting live online. Earlier, in July, another influencer who made videos of herself eating large amounts of food (mukbang) passed away while livestreaming to her followers.
