Chinese Director Bi Gan’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Resurrection’ Boarded by Les Films du Losange (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinephile who has traversed the labyrinth of world cinema, I eagerly anticipate the release of “Resurrection.” The enigmatic allure of Bi Gan’s directorial vision, coupled with the stellar cast and crew, promises an intriguing narrative that will undoubtedly captivate audiences worldwide.

The Paris-based film sales and distribution company, Les Films du Losange, has taken on the project “Resurrection,” a science fiction mystery film directed by the Chinese filmmaker Bi Gan. Notably, Bi Gan’s 2018 movie “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” was screened at Cannes.

Starring Jackson Yee from “Better Days” and Shu Qi of “The Assassin”, the production recently completed the second phase of its filming. Filming will recommence later this year during the last quarter.

“Resurrection” narrates the tale of a woman who, during surgery, slips into a realm known as the “eternal time zone.” In this state, she becomes ensnared in numerous dreams. Within these dreams, she discovers an android’s lifeless body and attempts to revive it by sharing stories with it. The android, in response, begins to traverse her narratives, and bit by bit, its senses start to regain consciousness.

The production is a collaboration between Charles Gillibert’s CG Cinema, and it represents Bi’s initial film project since “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.” Notably, the latter movie featured an impressive final scene lasting for 59 minutes without any cuts, filmed in stunning 3D.

The team behind the movie “Resurrection” features Dong Jingsong, a cinematographer known for projects such as “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” “The Wild Goose Lake,” and “Black Coal, Thin Ice.” This group also includes production designer Tu Nan, who has worked with Wong Kar-wai on “Blossoms Shanghai,” and costume designer Huang Wen-Ying, recognized for her work on “The Assassin.” Bi, a photographer and poet, is directing this film, having made his feature debut with “Kaili Blues” in 2015, which earned two awards at Locarno amidst numerous praises.

Additionally, Les Films du Losange is taking care of distribution for “Misericordia,” a film by Alain Guiraudie that had its premiere at Cannes and is set to appear on the autumn festival circuit, specifically at events like Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.
