Over the weekend, “A Minecraft Movie,” produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary, took the top spot at Chinese box offices, raking in approximately RMB105.5 million ($14.7 million) during April 4-6, as reported by Artisan Gateway.

During the Qingming Festival, the much-anticipated real-life version of the well-known video game debuted in China, garnering a strong initial response.

Coming in second place was the debut of “We Girls” by Meila Media, earning $11.1 million. This drama, directed by Feng Xiaogang, tells the story of Gao Yuexiang (portrayed by Zhao Liying), who resorts to a risky move to afford a cochlear implant for her child. Her actions lead to imprisonment, where she encounters inmates Hei Mei (Lan Xiya), Deng Hong (Chuai Ni), Hu Ping (Wang Ju), and Guo Aimei (Cheng Xiao). Despite their contrasting characters, the women develop a strong bond, standing together through hardship and defying destiny.

In its tenth consecutive weekend, “Ne Zha 2” has impressively grossed another $10 million, pushing its total earnings to an astounding $2.11 billion. This blockbuster animated film by Cococartoon is the uncontested box office champion of 2025, consistently ranking among the top three films, and continues to benefit from premium formats like Imax.

The film titled “Mumu,” produced by CKF Pictures, secured the fourth position in the weekend box office, earning approximately $7.3 million since its initial release on a Thursday. This moving drama, helmed by director Mo Sha, narrates the story of a seven-year-old girl who was raised in a deaf community with her father and whose life is turned upside down when her long-lost mother reappears and introduces her to the hearing world. As of now, its total earnings have reached $9.9 million.

Completing the top five box office earners, “Fox Hunt,” recently launched by Shanghai Film Group, garnered $3.4 million. This action movie is directed by Zhang Leo and stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Yihong Duan. The plot revolves around a group of Chinese detectives pursuing financial criminals.

During the weekend, box office earnings amounted to $52.5 million, boosting China’s year-to-date total to an impressive $3.45 billion. This represents a significant 42.2% rise compared to the same timeframe in the previous year. The continued success of “Ne Zha 2” and numerous recent releases drawing crowds suggests that the market is on an upward trend, indicating a robust recovery as we approach spring.
