Chilling new horror game lets the monster see you through your webcam

In a chilling video game named “Eyes Never Wake,” you’re compelled to find genuine hiding spots in reality since the virtual monster can spot you using your webcam.

Horror games have truly evolved over the years. We’ve seen games that utilize your microphone and have you holding your breath instead of screaming.

If you’re seeking a truly frightening read, be sure to add “Eyes Never Wake” to your list. It promises to be downright spine-tingling.

In the game Eyes Never Wake, created by Allan Hedlund, you’ll find yourself in a spine-tingling scenario where you must keep a monster that breaches the fourth wall from catching sight of your real-life face. The objective is clear: avoid showing your actual face.

Eyes Never Wake creator reveals how the game works

Steam has this game listed as “coming soon”, but there’s already a trailer showcasing its mechanics. Between navigating seemingly endless creepy halls, you’ll have to hide from a terrifying AI-driven creature lurking around the place.

Much like any other horror game, it’s safe to say you’ll likely get jumpscared a lot. The only thing is… as the player, you’ll actually have to hide by physically ducking beneath your desk when you encounter the monster on your screen.

Don’t think about cheating your way through, either. In a post on X, the creator has clarified that you can’t just cover your webcam with your hand. Doing so will make your character unable to move, which is definitely not ideal when you have a nightmare-fuel entity nearby.

In my horror game, the monster SEES YOU THROUGH YOUR WEBCAM.

Hide by physically ducking beneath your real-life desk while exploring a strange game not meant to be played.

The idea behind this game is certainly interesting; however, some players have raised concerns about privacy matters since it requires the use of a webcam.

The creator mentioned that if you’re a Vtuber or simply don’t want your face displayed, there’s an option to hide it. Rest assured, they also explained that the game simply uses OpenCV for Unity for face recognition, which “uses pre-trained models” for those worried about their privacy.

This system operates independently, without sending data to any external servers. You also have full control, as you can shut it down whenever you want.

Not much is known about the game’s lore as of now, but one thing for sure is that it appears that you’ll be able to “clip out” into a mysterious “out-of-bounds area” that you can explore and that your main objective is to “uncover the truth behind this abandoned game and why ‘heaven’ is so deeply hidden.”
