Chicago Fire: Carver’s Future In Jeopardy After Season 13?

A fan-favorite character is saying goodbye in Chicago Fire Season 13.

This latest season of the hit NBC procedural has seen its fair share of departures.

Over the past few months, viewers have kept a close eye on the show since several prominent cast members like Dermot Mulroney’s character Chief Dom Pascal and the latest one have decided to depart, leaving their roles behind.

What Happened to Carver on Chicago Fire?

Enthusiasts are eagerly waiting to discover the fate of Jake Lockett’s vehicle, Carver, on the show Chicago Fire, as the series bids farewell to a beloved character.

Lockett’s firefighter character has been a constant presence in the series since Season 11, appearing intermittently as a foe to Miranda Rae Mayo’s Firefighter Stella Kidd, who also faced an uncertain departure in 2024. Over time, he joined the crew at Station 51 and eventually became a key member of the main cast.

Fans have noticed that Carver has been slipping back into harmful behaviors, a trend that can be traced back to Season 12. During this season, his character fell into a crippling drug addiction and sought help in rehab at the beginning of Season 13.

In contrast, the latest episode of the show saw Carver making a comeback. It was disclosed that he had completed his treatment and was prepared to safeguard Chicago once more (for further details on Carver’s return, see here).

In Season 13, Episode 18 titled “Post-Mortem”, several firefighters sustained injuries as a result of an incident that didn’t go as planned. Among these injured was Carver, who found himself in a precarious situation that could have potentially been fatal.

The episode predominantly focuses on the aftermath of the unidentified firefighter, causing a widespread assumption among viewers that Carver had met his end and wouldn’t be returning.

Does Carver Die on Chicago Fire?

Eventually, it turns out that Carver wasn’t the firefighter who got injured during Season 13, Episode 18. The identity remained a mystery for some time before being disclosed.

As it transpired, Lieutenant Kelly Severide (portrayed by Taylor Kinney) mistakenly believed Carver to be his own brother Damon, and unfortunately, it was Carver who met a tragic end in the disastrous building fire.

During the firefight, Damon became detached from Clarence and made his way towards the attic. Unfortunately, the ceiling collapsed on him as he went under it, causing his injury.

At the hospital, Damon recovered well from his operation. Unfortunately, due to severe internal bleeding and intense smoke inhalation, he’s now experiencing lung collapse, which could potentially prevent him from continuing his career as a firefighter.

During the catastrophe that led Damon to the hospital, Carver was instructed by Miranda Rae Mayo’s character, Stella Kidd, to evacuate and leave the fire before it escalated to a critical point.

Is Carver Leaving Chicago Fire 2025?

Despite Carver’s survival in Season 13, Episode 18 of Chicago Fire, it doesn’t necessarily imply that his time on the show is coming to an end soon.

According to recent reports, it appears that the character played by Jake Lockett might not return for Season 14.

As reported by Deadline, should Chicago Fire get approved for its fourteenth season, it, along with numerous other NBC series, could face significant reductions in their budgets.

This implies that the current contracts for actors will likely require substantial modifications, particularly since it’s been pointed out that many major actors’ contracts are approaching their expiration dates. This adjustment might lead to a mass departure of characters from the periphery of the firefighting series.

This might involve Jake Lockett’s character (Carver), since he has made multiple appearances and departures throughout the show’s duration.

Although it doesn’t definitively mean that Carver will depart from the series following Season 13, this budget adjustment might lead to characters like Carver being let go as a cost-cutting measure. The aim could be to retain more well-known actors by negotiating new contracts instead.

Chicago Fire is streaming on Peacock.
