Chevy Chase recently complimented Steve Martin and Martin Short’s performance in Only Murders in the Building, jokingly suggesting the show would be even better with him in it. He reminisced about their time together in the 1986 comedy Three Amigos! and expressed hope for a future movie collaboration. This has led to speculation: could the stars of Three Amigos! appear together on the TV series?
According to People Magazine, Chevy Chase recently performed at the Altria Theater and discussed his career. When asked if there was a movie he’d like to revisit with a sequel, he brought up a John Landis film about silent movie stars encountering bandits in Mexico. Chase fondly remembered his co-stars and joked that they’re all working on a crime comedy – except for him.
They’re currently filming the show ‘Only Murders in the Building’ for television, and it’s really well done.
I think it’s great that they’re working on something, but I feel left out of the process. To really make this project shine – especially if it involves Steve and Marty – they need to include me. I just really miss working with them; they’re fantastic colleagues.
Several years ago, John Hoffman, an executive producer and co-creator of the show, mentioned the possibility of having Chase appear as a guest. He said they were working on bringing back several past cast members, but Chase hasn’t made an appearance yet. Currently, Chase isn’t close with many of his former colleagues. Regarding his Three Amigos! co-stars, Short agreed to participate in a recent documentary about Chase, but Martin chose not to be involved.
Chase “Almost Came to Blows” With Director John Landis on the Set of ‘Three Amigos!’

Chevy Chase is famous for his comedy, but he’s also known for being difficult to work with on set. This is likely why a reunion with the cast of Only Murders in the Building hasn’t happened, though it’s just speculation. Even during his successful run with Three Amigos!, Chase reportedly behaved poorly, and this kind of behavior became a pattern for him.

Chevy Chase shared a story about his favorite movies in an interview with Entertainment Weekly a while back. He said making Three Amigos! was the most enjoyable experience of his career, but also recalled nearly getting into a fight with director John Landis after Landis made a joke about The Twilight Zone: The Movie. This happened while Landis was facing scrutiny due to a tragic accident on the Twilight Zone set that resulted in three deaths. Chase admitted his comments during filming weren’t handled well.
I remember a time when John, a friend and I were on a really high cliff – about fifty feet up, with no safety ropes or anything. I was just teasing, making a silly remark about John being careless, but we were all wearing microphones, so he overheard me. He got incredibly angry, and we nearly got into a fight! Despite that, it was honestly one of the most fun experiences of my life.
