Cheech & Chong Finally Meet Jay & Silent Bob in New Photo

A legendary meeting of two iconic comedy duos known for their playful characters just happened, and a photo of them together is going viral! Fans are already hoping this leads to a movie featuring both pairs.

Richard Marin, known as Cheech, and Tommy Chong are a famous comedy duo best known for their films about marijuana culture. Another well-known comedic pair, Jay Mewes and Kevin Smith’s character Silent Bob, frequently appear together in Smith’s movies like Clerks, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. This weekend, all four of them—Cheech, Chong, Jay, and Silent Bob—were at the Astronomicon fan convention in Michigan. Kevin Smith shared a photo of the group on Instagram, which you can see below.

Movie History’s Most Popular Stoner Duos Unite

Kevin Smith shared on Instagram that Cheech and Chong were a major inspiration for his characters Jay and Silent Bob. He explained that they ‘paved the way’ for his work over the past decades and he was glad to tell them so at Astronomicon this weekend. He also thanked the group Twiztid for inviting him and for a great time.

One fan called it “the greatest meet up ever” and expressed hope for a team-up movie, commenting on the post: “We need this on the big screen!”

Someone just pointed out something amazing: wouldn’t it have been incredible to see Jay and Silent Bob cross paths with Cheech and Chong on the big screen? Honestly, the thought is pure cinematic gold, and I’m already wishing that movie existed!

“A crossover would’ve been lit,” another comment reads.

Cheech and Chong Paved the Way for Jay and Silent Bob

Cheech and Chong are a famous comedy duo who first rose to prominence in the 1970s. They began performing stand-up together, and later starred in a series of popular films built around their humorous take on cannabis culture. Their breakout movie was 1978’s Up in Smoke, which quickly became a cult favorite, and they continued to make films like Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, Nice Dreams, and Still Smokin.

In 2013, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong lent their voices to the animated film Cheech and Chong’s Animated Movie!, bringing their classic comedy to a new format. Their most recent project, Cheech and Chong’s Last Movie, is a documentary released last year where they look back on their legendary partnership. The documentary received positive feedback, earning an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jay and Silent Bob first teamed up in Kevin Smith’s 1994 independent film, Clerks, where they played drug dealers outside a New Jersey convenience store. The pair recently returned in the 2022 sequel, Clerks III, and fans can expect to see more of them in the future. Kevin Smith announced plans earlier this year to create another movie starring the comedic duo.

Surprisingly, we’re still getting funding for Jay and Silent Bob movies, so we’re making a new one called Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars. As fans know from Clerks III, Jay and Silent Bob now own a cannabis dispensary because weed is legal in New Jersey. Store Wars is essentially a rivalry movie, like Spy vs. Spy. A competing dispensary opens across the street, and the entire film revolves around them battling and trying to ruin each other’s businesses. It’s a really funny stoner comedy, and I’m thrilled about it.

A release date hasn’t yet been set.
