Check out the ports of the Japanese retro action RPG Marchen Veil on Project EGG

In the realm of popular games often discussed in the Japanese retro gaming community, there’s a standout title known as Marchen Veil. Originally released exclusively on vintage Japanese PCs, D4 Enterprise has been progressively adapting it for use on Windows 10 and 11 computers, along with Nintendo Switch, by means of their Project EGG emulator system.

In this game, you guide a transformed prince from the watery realm, who was cursed by a sorcerer, on his journey. His main goal is to regain his human form and wed the woodland kingdom’s princess.

Initially, System Sacom launched the game for PC-9801 back in August of 1985. Later on, they adapted it for various other platforms including PC-8801, X1, MSX, MSX2, FM-7, and MZ-2500. The final version was released on Nintendo’s Famicom Disk System in March of 1987.

Over time, D4 Enterprise has been making available different adaptations of the various PC versions of Marchen Veil through their Project EGG platform. Notably, the PC-8801 and MSX versions can be accessed for free, while they’ve also published a paid port of the FM-7 version and a bundle that includes the sequel Marchen Veil II (exclusive to the PC-9801) with the original game. As of now, they’ve just launched another adaptation based on the MSX2 version.

Besides this, D4 Enterprise has also made a port of the game for Nintendo Switch, which is accessible through EGG Console. This particular version is modeled after the PC-8801mkIISR edition and can be purchased globally at $6.49. However, it’s important to note that the original game is still exclusive to Japan.

The princess was captivated by the Lake Prince, and they both expressed their affection for each other. However, a wizard’s curse turned Vere into an unsightly monster, banishing him to the farthest reaches of the world. The question is: Can you break the curse, transform back into the prince of the lake, and reunite with your beloved princess in Felix?

In this game, you’re embarking on the initial chapter of the “Märchen Veil” collection. The narrative unfolds as you encounter Neptunus, the sea deity, for the first time.
