Following the premiere of the 4K restored version of Charlie Chaplin’s timeless masterpiece “The Gold Rush” at Cannes Classics before the Cannes Film Festival, a promotional clip for the movie is now available.
Originating from mk2 Films, a fresh trailer is arriving ahead of the global simultaneous re-release of the film on June 26, coinciding with the exact centennial anniversary of its initial premiere in 1925, which took place at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles.
The worldwide launch encompasses over 500 viewings in more than 70 different regions, a joint effort between mk2 and an esteemed group of local distributors, cinemas, and global theater networks.
The Paris-based organization stated that this significant occasion serves as a worldwide homage to Chaplin’s lasting impact, proving that The Gold Rush still has the ability to enthrall viewers a hundred years after its initial release,” they noted.
Featuring Charlie Chaplin’s beloved Tramp character, “The Gold Rush” is a film that Chaplin himself wrote, produced, and directed. It remains one of his most iconic works, including the well-known “dance scene” where he plays a role.
Back in 1942, Charlie Chaplin’s masterpiece, initially released in 1936, gained an instant wave of critical acclaim. He later re-released a version with sound effects, music, and narration, which was recognized with two Academy Award nominations, even though the original film came out four years before the first Oscars were handed out. Fast forward to 1992, this timeless piece of art was chosen for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, acknowledging its significant cultural, historical, or aesthetic impact. I’ve always been captivated by its enduring charm and influence on cinema history.
