Prepare yourself for a summer filled with Takashi Miike’s work! It has been confirmed that Charli XCX will both star in and produce one of his upcoming films, according to our sources at EbMaster.
The movie represents the second production venture by this versatile artist, who’s currently riding high with her album “Brat” that’s still making waves. This new project falls under her Studio365 label, and it will be released alongside the upcoming A24 film titled “The Moment”. While specific storyline details are being tightly guarded, this director is renowned for his portrayals of intense violence, as evident in his critically acclaimed works such as “Audition” from 1999 and “Ichi the Killer” in 2001. The screenplay for this film is being written by Ross Evans, who’s also working on a script called “How to Save a Marriage” for Sony, with Robert Pattinson involved as producer.
After the success of her album “Brat,” released in June of last year (winning her three Grammys and being hailed as the best album of 2024), Charli XCX has now shifted her focus to acting and producing. She’s got a number of exciting projects lined up, such as starring in “The Moment,” directed by Aidan Zamiri. Additionally, she will appear in Julia Jackman’s period fantasy film “100 Nights of Hero” alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Emma Corrin; in Pete Ohs and Jeremy O. Harris’ film “Erupcja”; Daniel Goldhaber’s horror remake of “Faces of Death”; Gregg Araki’s film “I Want Your Sex,” starring Olivia Wilde, Cooper Hoffman, and others; Romain Gavras’ adventure comedy “Sacrifice”; and “The Gallerist,” a thriller directed by Cathy Yan and featuring Natalie Portman, Jenna Ortega, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and more.
Since 1991, Miike has directed more than a hundred films across various genres such as horror, action, and drama. Among his notable works are “Audition,” “Ichi the Killer,” the yakuza action film “Dead or Alive” from 1999, the erotic black comedy “Visitor Q” in 2001, the horror movie “One Missed Call” in 2003, his remake of a samurai tale, “13 Assassins,” in 2010, and the drama “Hara-kiri” from 2011. His upcoming film, “Sham,” is scheduled to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.
