Benny Drama making a comedy
On November 8, 2022: Comedian Benny Drama, whose real name is Benito Skinner, is swapping his Halloween bridal party for a… football team (at least on TV). Skinner is developing and starring in a new comedy titled “Overcompensating,” currently in production with Amazon Prime. This project is being produced by A24 and Jonah Hill’s Strong Baby Productions. The show revolves around an Idaho football player grappling with his sexuality by overcompensating for it. Charli XCX, Skinner’s friend from the “New Shapes” music video, will be joining him as executive producer and is rumored to write music for the series. If it goes to series, “Harlem’s” Scott King would serve as showrunner for “Overcompensating.
Brat Summer into Acting Autumn
On October 2, 2024, Benito Skinner shared on Instagram that production for season 1 of “Overcompensating” has been completed. Additionally, the show has found a platform at Amazon’s Prime Video. Skinner hinted at further collaboration with Charli XCX and ended the post with a suggestion that Charli XCX might be doing more than just providing music, saying “Oh, and if you thought @charli_xcx was only doing the music…
Following the hint, Deadline confirmed that Charli will not only appear as a guest star on “Overcompensating”, but also contribute music to the show. This marks a busy lineup for Charli, as she’s also set to star in the remake of “Faces of Death” and Gregg Araki’s “I Want Your Sex”, where she will act alongside Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde.
