Charlamagne Tha God, ‘John Wick’ Producer Basil Iwanyk’s New Company Southland Stories Sets Jonathan Majors Film ‘True Threat’ as First Project (EXCLUSIVE)

Charlemagne Tha God and “John Wick” co-producer Basil Iwanyk are joining forces to establish Southland Stories, a production company dedicated to amplifying Southern narratives. Their inaugural project as producers will be “True Threat,” a revenge-themed thriller featuring Jonathan Majors.

As I eagerly look forward to the upcoming summer, I’m thrilled to share that the gritty action-thriller titled “True Threat” will be rolling cameras! This film is part of a growing collection from Southland Stories, promising an exciting cinematic journey. Directed by the talented Gerard McMurray, this movie revolves around a former special forces operative, who embarks on a relentless quest for vengeance when his teenage son falls victim to ruthless gang members.

Interestingly, this film marks one of Denzel Washington’s first roles following his 2023 conviction for third-degree assault and harassment charges. I can hardly wait to see him back on the big screen in such a powerful role!

According to Charlamagne Tha God, movies similar to ‘True Threat’ prompted the creation of Southland Stories. It’s important to highlight that Black artists excel in every genre. Gerard McMurray and Jonathan Majors are exceptionally gifted people.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m excited about the upcoming productions from Southland Stories. This studio will offer a diverse range of films, delving into both real-life accounts and scripted narratives. The founders, Charlamagne (a renowned radio host and entrepreneur) and Iwanyk (co-founder of Thunder Road Pictures and Asbury Park Pictures), have teamed up to establish Southland Stories with the mission of highlighting authentic, often underrepresented stories that typically get sidelined in mainstream cinema.

According to initial reports from EbMaster in March, Charlamagne founded a film production company alongside Iwanyk as he believes that the lifestyle and spirit of the American South have often been eclipsed by urban themes in popular culture.

Reflecting on my experiences, it seems our nation often prioritizes familiar narratives. Being from where I am, I’ve always sensed a lack of amplification for our voices, our stories – much like how New York and Los Angeles have managed to do.
