MAPPA has officially made a live-action short film featuring Pochita. Given how emotionally challenging the end of Part 2 of the Chainsaw Man manga has been for fans, this is a welcome bit of good news.
Kazutaka Sugiyama, the character designer for the popular anime Chainsaw Man (also known as Tototsu), recently revealed some surprising news. He shared that a live-action clip featuring Pochita was actually made last year to promote Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc. However, the clip was never shown to the public; it was unexpectedly replaced with Tototsu’s own artwork just before release.
MAPPA Created a Live-Action Pochita Movie to Promote the Reze Arc
Tototsu announced on X that a short clip of Pochita from the live-action Chainsaw Man adaptation does exist, though it’s unlikely to be made public.
I was so thrilled to see Tototsu release that gorgeous final piece of art from the Reze Arc screening in Japan! It showed Reze beaming while getting flowers from Denji, and Tototsu actually drew it himself. Seeing it pop up really got him thinking about the beginning, and he started sharing the story of how he created one of the very first promotional images for the movie. It’s a pretty cool look back at the whole process!
Before the Reze Arc movie came out in 2025, Tototsu was commissioned to create artwork of Power, Aki, and Denji enjoying a movie together (pictured below). However, Tototsu unexpectedly contracted a severe case of COVID-19 while working on the piece, making it a struggle to complete.
He almost didn’t finish the artwork on time because he became unexpectedly ill. Fortunately, his colleagues at MAPPA noticed he was too sick to complete it, so they stepped in and created a different promotional piece instead.
Tototsu explained that he actually caught COVID while working on the piece and was sick for two weeks, almost preventing him from finishing on time. Thankfully, his team rallied together and created a live-action clip featuring Pochita to stand in for his artwork. Tototsu was incredibly touched by their support, saying he felt “truly supported by everyone.”
What the new Pochita video clip will show is still unknown, but it’s probably a funny, short scene—maybe someone dressed as Pochita going to see the Chainsaw Man movie. Whatever it is, fans are really excited and are eagerly awaiting its release, as they feel they need a bit of Pochita’s charm right now.
Chainsaw Man Fans Have Never Needed a Pochita Movie More Than They Do Now
The last couple of weeks have been really tough for fans of Chainsaw Man. First, Pochita made a devastating choice, and now it’s been announced that the chapter coming out on March 24th will be the last of Part 2. It feels like one unfortunate event after another.
Adding to the confusion, Shonen Jump has been unclear about whether chapter 232 of Chainsaw Man will be the series finale, or just the end of the current story arc, with more to come in a future part. Given all the recent drama, fans are hoping for a cheerful moment with Pochita to brighten things up.
Only Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man, knows how sad the ending of Part 2 will truly be. However, MAPPA could ease some of the heartbreak for fans by giving us more scenes with Pochita. Thanks to the Reze Arc movie and a planned promotion during the 2026 Winter Olympics, Pochita has become a beloved character worldwide. Considering what happens to Pochita near the end of Chainsaw Man, that promotional video would feel like a final, comforting moment with him, much like the emotional connection he shared with Denji in the manga.
It appears the planned Pochita short film from MAPPA will likely never be released. Artist Tototsu explained on X (formerly Twitter) that he was feeling unwell on the day the short was scheduled to appear. Despite this, he managed to finish and submit the promotional art just in time. MAPPA ended up sharing Tototsu’s art instead of the video, and the clip has since been forgotten.
While fans were disappointed about a certain Chainsaw Man movie clip being withheld, they did receive a fantastic piece of artwork featuring Power enjoying popcorn, courtesy of Tototsu. Still, Tototsu hopes the clip will eventually see the light of day, leaving fans to continue hoping for its release.
