Chainsaw Man creator says you need to read this underrated manga

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for Shonen mangas and an uncanny knack for predicting hidden gems, I can confidently say that Centuria by Tohru Kuramori is worth adding to your reading list. Having delved into numerous manga series spanning centuries, I can attest that this 16th-century tale of survival, hope, and resilience stands out as a unique gem among the plethora of Shonen offerings.

One of the most incredible yet underrated Shonen mangas has received recognition from Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, so here’s what you need to know.

16th-century comic series titled Centuria, penned by Tohru Kuramori, portrays the journey of Julian, a runaway aboard a slaver’s vessel. Amidst a grim reality, Julian is subjected to numerous trials and tribulations after being given away by his own mother. But destiny alters when he crosses paths with Mira, a woman carrying a child on that same ship.

Following a heart-wrenching event, he sets out on an extraordinary voyage in search of tranquility and liberation, accompanied by baby Diana, who is Mira’s newborn child. The story of Centuria first appeared in April 2024 and now consists of 25 captivating chapters.

It’s not widely recognized, but Tatsuki Fujimoto’s current work, such as Spy x Family, Hell’s Paradise, and Dandadan, is actually being done by his previous assistant, Kuramori. In fact, this isn’t a new occurrence; the creators of these popular mangas have all collaborated with Fujimoto in the past.

In the current scenario, the creator of Chainsaw Man endorses Kuramori by urging his followers to check out this particular manga.

On Twitter/X today, Kuramori posted, “On October 4th, we’re launching volume 2 of Centuria! Thank you for your continued support! A comment on the cover from Tatsuki Fujimoto, author of Chainsaw Man, came in. I’m overjoyed and deeply grateful!

According to a well-known Shonen Jump news source, Tatsuki Fujimoto (creator of Chainsaw Man) has endorsed Centuria by Tohru Kuramori. Fujimoto appreciates the ‘extraordinarily serious fantasy artwork and monster designs’ found within this series. It’s worth noting that Kuramori previously worked as an assistant for Fujimoto.

Centuria might not boast a substantial social media following at present, but those who read it seem to find the narrative captivating. One enthusiast expressed, “Centuria is phenomenal thus far. It starts off powerfully, and the potential for where the story could unfold is mind-blowing. I’m eagerly anticipating a physical edition in my region.

One suggested rephrase could be: “Another voice chimed in, stating that Fujimoto isn’t just an exceptional manga artist, but he imbues his helpers with magical abilities enabling them to produce outstanding series of their own. So, what secret elixir is he giving them?

A third fan noted that Centuria could use some assistance, as the first-volume sales were disappointing, even by the standards of a manga published on Jump+.
