When will Project Hadar be released?

CD Projekt Red has merely announced a new intellectual property without revealing any potential release dates or timeframes for its launch. The studio is currently keeping mum about their intended timeline for the game’s debut.

Preorder Project Hadar

CD Projekt Red’s new game doesn’t have pre-order options available at this time because it hasn’t been officially announced or given a release date yet.

Project Hadar new IP trailer information

As of yet, CD Projekt has not released any official trailers for its new IP.

Project Hadar new IP platforms

It’s been unclear so far which platforms CD Projekt’s latest intellectual property will grace, yet considering their past work, it’s a good bet that the game will be available on both PC and consoles.

Project Hadar new IP story, setting, and characters

At present, Project Hadar hasn’t been formally unveiled yet, so details are scarce. However, the developers have clarified what the game is not, and they’ve confirmed that it isn’t a “cosmic horror set in feudal Japan.” In other words, we know it’s not going to be a game about cosmic horrors taking place in ancient Japan, as stated by Executive Michal Nowakowski on social media.

Since Project Hadar is an entirely new Intellectual Property (IP), it’s likely that the story will unfold in a fresh, unique universe populated by entirely novel characters. Although the term “Hadar” has various meanings, such as a fossil site in Ethiopia or a star within the Centaurus constellation, its connection, if any, to the final product remains unclear.

CD Projekt developer Maria Mazur expressed her delight when they found out they would create a new intellectual property, stating it was fitting given the diverse team they have, including storytellers and artists. She feels that all their talents should be channeled into something fresh or an original project, and she is eager about Hadar.

Project Hadar game engine

It’s possible that Project Hadar will be constructed utilizing Epic’s Unreal Engine, but this hasn’t been officially verified yet. Moreover, CD Projekt has a partnership with Epic that involves using the Unreal Engine 5 for more of their games, such as The Witcher 4. Given this, it’s plausible that this arrangement might extend to other CD Projekt projects. However, it’s important to note that this is still speculation and not a confirmed fact.

Who’s developing Project Hadar?

CD Projekt Red has been working on a project named Project Hadar as of October 31, 2024. At this time, they had 18 team members dedicated to it, which was fewer than the 20 people working on it at the end of July 2024. The bulk of CD Projekt’s development staff are currently focused on Polaris, a code name for the upcoming game known as The Witcher 4.

Over time, CD Projekt has expanded to take on more projects at once, including not just Hadar and The Witcher 4 but also several other titles. These include a follow-up for Cyberpunk 2077, a remake of the first Witcher game, and an offshoot series titled Sirius within the Witcher universe.

Project Hadar development news

In October 2022, CD Projekt unveiled Project Hadar. At the announcement, they stated the game was originally conceived and, at that point, was in the initial phases of development, often referred to as the creative foundation-building stage. It’s important to note that, despite the name, they weren’t actually creating a game at that time, but rather establishing the groundwork for one.

It’s unlikely that Project Hadar will be out for a while, as CD Projekt Red has fully immersed themselves in the development of The Witcher 4, which they started producing at the close of 2024.

CD Projekt venturing into a new original property (IP) is a significant step for the studio, as they have built their reputation primarily on adapting other authors’ works. The Witcher franchise, for instance, is an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series, while Cyberpunk 2077 draws inspiration from Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop role-playing game.
