CD Projekt partners with mobile gaming giant. The fruit of this partnership may be a game from The Witcher or Cyberpunk universe

In the unveiling of their financial report for 2024, CD Projekt disclosed a strategic alliance with Scopely, a major player in mobile game development globally. This partnership will see them collaborate on a fresh project from within the CD Projekt portfolio, though the specific brand remains undisclosed as of now – it could be The Witcher, Cyberpunk, or another related to Project Hadar.

Scopely, an American game developer predominantly recognized for the hit mobile game Monopoly Go!, has seen significant industry growth following its acquisition of Niantic (as reported by VGC). This move, worth a staggering $3.5 billion, also gives Scopely control over popular games such as Monster Hunter Now and Pikmin Bloom – both created by the same studio that brought us Pokemon Go.

At today’s conference, CD Projekt didn’t disclose much about the upcoming collaboration project, but we do know that its setting will be within a world associated with one of their established brands. As of now, we can only make educated guesses regarding further details.

Collaborating with Scopely could be a significant move for CD Projekt in venturing into the lucrative mobile games sector. To date, the Polish firm has primarily concentrated on large AAA games, while also attempting to claim a portion of the pie on iOS and Android devices, such as The Witcher: Monster Slayer. Scopely, however, boasts expertise in developing and monetizing mobile games, which could lead to the creation of a game within the Witcher or Cyberpunk universe, designed for the free-to-play model since Scopely’s productions are typically free to play.
