CBS has announced its fall 2026 schedule earlier than other networks. For years, CBS has consistently led in TV ratings. As competition increases from other networks and streaming services, CBS aims to build on its current success and continue to grow its audience.
As a TV critic, I’m seeing a lot of activity behind the scenes now that networks have finished deciding which shows will return and which won’t. They’re moving on to the crucial task of scheduling – figuring out when to launch new seasons in the fall and strategically pairing shows to boost ratings. Unlike streaming or cable, network television still operates on a pretty fixed yearly cycle, meaning shows that are renewed are almost guaranteed to come back. And speaking of planning ahead, CBS is already well ahead of the game, having announced its fall lineup before most shows even take their summer break!
CBS’s Fall 2026 Schedule Is Dominated By Established Franchises & Spinoffs
CBS recently revealed its plans for the 2026 TV season at an early preview event. The lineup looks strong, featuring popular shows like NCIS and FBI, as well as new hits and some exciting additions. While a few shows are ending, including their long-running comedy The Neighborhood, CBS is making room for fresh content. This includes a new show starring Mike Colter from Robert and Michelle King, called Cupertino, and a companion series to Ghosts titled Eternally Yours, created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. You can find the complete schedule below.
Given how well Tracker and Marshals are performing on Sundays, CBS is keeping that pairing as is. On Mondays, FBI and CIA will now start an hour earlier because The Neighborhood and DMV have been removed from the schedule. NCIS will continue its Super Tuesday format, with LL Cool J and Scott Caan’s NCIS: New York airing between the regular NCIS and the new season of NCIS: Origins.
CBS has made some changes to its Thursday night lineup. While season 3 of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage still starts the night at 8 PM ET, it will now be followed by Eternally Yours at 8:30 PM ET, which takes the spot previously held by Ghosts. Season 4 of Elsbeth will move to 9 PM ET, and Cupertino will finish out the night. The Friday schedule remains the same, featuring seasons 5 of Fire Country, 2 of Sheriff Country, and 2 of Boston Blue.
Matlock, Ghosts & More Are Delayed To Winter 2027
Several shows CBS previously announced would return aren’t appearing in the fall 2026 lineup because they’ve been scheduled for later in the TV season. Instead of launching in September or October, these programs will premiere in the winter. This includes season five of Ghosts, season three of Matlock, season four of NCIS: Sydney, and the highly anticipated Einstein, starring Matthew Gray Gubler and Melissa Fumero.
CBS’s upcoming 2026-2027 season currently has fewer comedies than usual. This is noteworthy because CBS has long been known for its successful comedy shows. While adding humor to their crime and drama series might help fill the gap, CBS does have some new comedies in the works, though they likely won’t air until later.
