So, it looks like CBS isn’t finished with the world of ‘Fire Country’! I’m hearing whispers of a potential third show set in Edgewater, the same town we’ve come to know. This one, though, would be a bit different – instead of firefighters, it sounds like we’ll be following the paramedics and doctors on the front lines. It’s still very early stages, but it’s exciting to think about expanding the universe beyond the firehouse.
A new report from Deadline suggests a potential spinoff series focusing on a team of doctors and medical staff in Edgewater. This would expand the franchise’s exploration of emergency responders in different locations. Though still in the very early planning stages – it hasn’t even been formally proposed to CBS or CBS Studios – producers are considering introducing a significant character in season 2 of Sheriff Country to lay the groundwork for the new show.
Fans of the show will recognize this approach. As previously reported by Deadline, the series Sheriff Country began as part of Fire Country before getting its own show, with Morena Baccarin’s character first appearing on Fire Country. Now, CBS seems to be using the same strategy to expand the franchise.
The new medical drama is being developed with Matt Lopez, the showrunner of Sheriff Country, as an executive producer. He’ll be working alongside familiar faces from the franchise – Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, and Tony Phelan – as well as Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed from Jerry Bruckheimer Television. While the project is in its early stages, a writer hasn’t been hired yet, and details about the plot are still being kept secret.
