Survivor Recap: Welling Up

The main event unfolds during the immunity challenge. Contrary to this, it’s Lagi who triumphs at the reward challenge with no significant occurrences besides Sai expressing her desire for a rest (mimicking a typical young millennial) and becoming anxious when her team (still unclear after last week’s reshuffle) fails to secure a donut. Incidentally, David engaged in an unusual display of affection at the reward by drinking straight from a jug of milk that was intended for coffee creamer. The scene was even adorned with romantic background music chosen by the editor. (I wonder if consuming and guzzling milk isn’t associated with white supremacy?)

Abbott Elementary Recap: Bounce Back

Although Ava’s job situation remains uncertain after the recent episode, it offers an intriguing new perspective on her character. For us viewers, Ava’s dismissal serves as a significant plot twist, shaking up the core of the show Abbott Elementary. However, within Ava’s world, the school is just one small thread in the intricate tapestry of her life. In fact, it’s not even her primary source of income. Ava is a multi-faceted woman who has dated NBA star Andre Iguodala, graced the cover of Inner City Doomsday Preppers Magazine, and even has a hookah flavor named after her. So, it’s more about how Abbott Elementary will cope without Ava, rather than what Ava might do without the school.

They’re Riverdale-ing Scooby-Doo

As a fan, I’m thrilled to share that Berlanti Productions is bringing a fresh, live-action twist to the beloved Scooby-Doo gang, and it’s being likened to the Arrowverse style. This exciting news was announced in April 2024. The official synopsis, shared by Variety, paints an intriguing picture: “In their final summer at camp, longtime friends … Read more

Zendaya Will Be Barry Jenkins’s Baby in Ronnie Spector Biopic

At the age of seventeen, Ronnie Spector first encountered the volatile record producer Phil Spector. The band formed by her sister and cousin, the Ronettes, experienced their greatest successes under Phil’s label. They got married in 1968. In her memoir, Ronnie Spector recounted that marriage to Phil was a perpetual nightmare. He would yell at her whenever she spoke, eventually silencing her. He subjected her to abuse, and he controlled her movements by holding onto her shoes so she couldn’t leave the house without his permission. Barefoot, Ronnie managed to flee in 1972.

Rust Has a Trailer and Release Date

In the preview, Alec Baldwin utters the term “reckon,” which undeniably sounds the most cowboyish. The storyline appears unclear as characters exchange significant glances. A young lad seems to be experiencing a challenging rite of passage in the wild west, and there are public executions depicted. A law enforcement officer states, “The only rule that prevails in this world is the one we create,” an intriguing line for a trailer introducing a film steeped in legal controversies. The movie, titled Rust, will be released in the U.S. on May 2.

Duke Isn’t Happy About The White Lotus’s Merch Use

Tramble stated that Duke values artistic expression and imaginative storytelling, but using clothing with Duke’s registered trademarks can be confusing and may wrongly imply an endorsement or connection where none exists. Luckily, it seems no one wore school merchandise during the unexpected sibling encounter.

Taylor Tomlinson’s After Midnight Is Coming to an End

The show titled “After Midnight” debuted in January 2024, receiving a mix of reviews and raising questions about its approach to refreshing the format of its previous Comedy Central series “@midnight”. Since then, this program, which brings together a panel of three comedians who engage in games inspired by internet trends, has been consistently tweaking its structure to align more closely with a traditional late-night talk show. From the outset, it’s introduced an opening monologue and a segment where the comedians converse on a couch, answering typical interview questions. The show has garnered a loyal fan base who appreciate its quirky nature, but has faced challenges in securing high-profile guests, breaking into mainstream popularity, or creating viral moments. In CBS’s statement, Stephen Colbert expressed gratitude for their ongoing support and productive collaboration on “After Midnight”, praising the team’s unwavering dedication. “Although we were eager to kick off our third season in the fall,” he added, “we respect Taylor’s decision to return to stand-up comedy full time.

Disney’s Live-Action Princess Movies Are Trapped in the 2010s

The latest version of “Snow White” could be considered the sixth or the fifteenth live-action adaptation of an original Disney animated film, depending on your interpretation of what qualifies as live-action and a remake. I only count adaptations like “Cinderella,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Mulan,” and “The Little Mermaid” that closely follow Disney’s classic Princess formula, which were brought to life with substantial budgets during the company’s Dominance Era. These films often expanded upon their source material, adding prologues and backstory, fitting actors into intricate costumes designed for two-dimensional characters, and placing humans in increasingly unattractive CGI environments. New songs, generally of poor quality, were frequently added as well. Despite the questionable musical choices, these films have proven to be popular, with “Beauty” (2017) and “Aladdin” (2019) each grossing over a billion dollars, and “The Little Mermaid” (2023) earning $117 million domestically in just one Memorial Day weekend.

The Studio Recap: Back to One!

During this installment, the narrative unfolds in a single, continuous shot, focusing on Matt and Sal who arrive with intentions of relaxing, while Polley performs her enchanting work. Matt particularly enjoys this aspect of the job, as he watches the script unfold before his eyes. He has some suggestions, such as a bookend effect, which the episode also employs. The initial mistake Matt makes by parking in an incorrect spot at the start of the episode leads to severe repercussions towards its conclusion. This is just one of many self-referential elements in this intriguing episode, with discussions about the challenges of capturing magic hour shots being a prominent theme. Interestingly, the episode itself demonstrates these very challenges. Despite its complexities and self-awareness, it’s an entertaining and amusing watch that makes you forget its thoughtful undertones until after you’ve enjoyed it. Essentially, it’s a tightly written comedic episode that also serves as a thrilling disaster movie in disguise.
