Pluribus blends elements of zombie, alien invasion, and post-apocalyptic stories, but ultimately feels fresh and original. The story begins after a virus from space kills hundreds of millions, and those who survive are linked by ‘the Joining’ – a telepathic connection that erases their individual selves, creating a single, collective consciousness. Only thirteen people remain as individuals, and in the second episode, the tough and realistic Carol Sturka seeks them out, hoping they can work together to save humanity. She tries to inspire them with a speech about fixing the world, but Diabaté, one of the other survivors, simply asks, “Why?”

According to court documents obtained by People magazine, Baldoni wrote to Wilson after a tense argument with Reynolds and Lively in January 2024. Baldoni claimed Reynolds spoke to him condescendingly, like he was a child. They also allegedly told him and Jamey Heath that their public personas were misleading and that having a podcast created a false sense of security for listeners. It’s ironic to think someone’s safety could be affected by whether or not a person hosts a podcast – you might even hear about yourself on one!

It helped redefine the genre, moving away from the style of classic Westerns starring actors like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. The film is still incredibly popular today, recently seeing a surge in views on the MGM+ streaming service, according to FlixPatrol.

While reality TV definitely shapes how we see things and even played a role in our current president’s rise, the movie The Running Man now feels more relevant to the internet. The film portrays reality TV as a way to distract and control people, and that’s what the internet does now. Despite a messy ending, the movie is exciting and features a lead actor trying to become the next big action star, though he’s not always believable as an angry person. It’s more of a fun, big-budget action movie than a serious commentary on society, and its misunderstanding of reality TV makes its message weak. The director is known for cleverly referencing pop culture—like referencing Resident Evil 2 in Spaced or using an invasion theme to explore aging in The World’s End. However, he doesn’t seem to really understand or enjoy reality TV.

After a major loss at the end of season 8, 9-1-1 is still finding its way in season 9. While the season has been uneven in quality, with a four-episode premiere that felt too long, there have been bright spots – particularly the inventive “Día de los Muertos” episode. Overall, the season 9 finale perfectly captures the show’s current state: a bit of a mixed bag.
