But the new movie, The Sheep Detectives, gives CGI animals a real purpose: solving a murder! The story centers around a flock of sheep investigating the death of their shepherd, played by Hugh Jackman, who used to read them mystery novels. The film features a strong supporting cast, including Emma Thompson and Nicholas Braun, but the main draw is definitely seeing these animated sheep crack the case. It’s surprising to learn the movie was written by Craig Mazin, known for the intense dramas Chernobyl and The Last of Us – maybe he just needed something lighter after those projects! The Sheep Detectives will hit theaters on May 8, 2026, perfectly timed with shearing season.
