In a typical movie, Bob would be the hero and Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw – Sean Penn’s over-the-top, intensely macho villain – would be the bad guy. Lockjaw is a ridiculously exaggerated character, physically imposing and moving like a puppet. Bob, often seen in a worn bathrobe, wildly flailing and crawling around, fits right into the string of flawed characters Leonardo DiCaprio has been playing lately. Penn delivers one of his best performances in years – his expression in an early scene, gazing at something with a mix of shock and pride, is award-worthy. However, director Paul Thomas Anderson shows us that both men are actually just misguided figures, small players at the mercy of larger forces. They both share a fascination with Perfidia Beverly Hills (played by Teyana Taylor), a captivating and powerful woman who leads a militant group while pregnant. Perfidia truly feels like the main character, and she effortlessly leaves both men behind, even abandoning her baby with Bob when she leaves.

The creators of *The Morning Show* seem to be trying to outdo themselves with season three, and they’re doing it in a very *Morning Show* fashion: by transforming Bradley Jackson into a character reminiscent of Erin Brockovich. This happens when she stumbles upon disturbing video of countless birds falling from the sky.

The reason Bradley is investigating these bird deaths is a bit complicated. Her former network, now called UBN after a merger, wants to attract more conservative viewers and decides to rehire her, despite her past issues. She only agrees to return because she receives a tip about a possible cover-up involving a chemical plant owned by the network’s parent company. This plant is suspected of causing health problems in local residents and contributing to the mass bird deaths. While this new direction feels like a nod to ’90s conspiracy thrillers, it’s a complex setup that ultimately seems designed to give Reese Witherspoon something substantial to do on the show.

As a moviegoer, I always enjoyed the dynamic between Dave Bautista and James Gunn in the *Guardians of the Galaxy* films. Bautista was perfectly cast as the stoic Drax, and Gunn really brought out the best in him as the director of all three movies. It’s been exciting to watch what Gunn’s doing now, though! He’s taken on a huge role at DC Studios with Peter Safran, essentially building a whole new universe for DC and Warner Bros. It’s a big leap, but knowing his work on *Guardians*, I have high hopes!

Jordan Li immediately recognizes him as someone who was with them – along with Marie, Emma, and Andre – while they were all in rehab at Elmira.
