Assassin’s Creed: Dynasty takes place in 755 AD, during a turbulent time in Chinese history. Following the collapse of the Tang Dynasty due to the rebellion led by An Lushan – a military leader connected to the Knights Templar – assassin Li E joins forces with those still loyal to the Tang to try and restore the country. The game’s creators, artist Zhang Xiao and writer Xu Xianzhe, thoroughly researched the Tang Dynasty to make sure the story and visuals accurately reflect the period.
