Castlevania As A Vampire Survivors Metroidvania Would Make “So Much Sense,” Poncle Says

While new Castlevania games aren’t released as frequently now, the series still has a dedicated fanbase. Poncle, the studio behind the popular game Vampire Survivors and its sequel Vampire Crawlers, has been a strong supporter of the classic Konami franchise. Vampire Survivors creator Luca Galante has often cited Castlevania as a major inspiration, and he’s expressed his desire to revive the series if Konami were to give him the opportunity.

In an interview with TopMob, Galante shared the story behind Poncle’s decision to create Vampire Crawlers. He also discussed Vampire Survivors, suggesting it would have worked well as either a metroidvania game or a title within the Castlevania series.

Galante explained that a Castlevania-style game seems like a natural fit, and he’d ideally like to approach Konami for the rights if he were to pursue that. Alternatively, if he created a metroidvania game, he’d prefer to use the characters and world from Legacy of the Moonspell or Tides of the Foscari, rather than something similar to Vampire Survivors. He feels these options just make the most sense.

Vampire Survivors clearly draws heavy inspiration from the Castlevania series. It initially used visual elements from Castlevania, and in 2024, an official expansion dedicated to the franchise was released. Called ‘Ode to Castlevania,’ this expansion is a tribute to the classic monster-hunting games and adds a wealth of new content to Vampire Survivors, including a map packed with references, hidden secrets, and bosses inspired by Castlevania.
