Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato Selected as Sheffield DocFest’s Guests of Honor

2025 finds me thrilled as I’ve been chosen as the guest of honor at Sheffield DocFest! They’ve got an exclusive lineup planned, spotlighting none other than the remarkable works of Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, the visionary co-founders of World of Wonder. I can hardly wait to share our journey with you all!

This pair will participate in various events and screenings, such as a discussion with Dawn Airey about their professional journeys, and a virtual session with Ronan Farrow to explore podcast-to-TV transformations. The festival plans to exhibit a 20th anniversary screening of Bailey and Barbato’s documentary “Inside Deep Throat,” as well as a sneak peek at their upcoming HBO series “Murder in Glitterball City” and other presentations.

During a period when narratives about the LGBTQ+ community encounter increasing obstacles, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato continue to be fearless pioneers, skillfully amplifying the voices of the LGBTQ+ community on both large and small screens. Their willingness to experiment with various mediums, their appreciation for fandoms, and their support for queer talent have not only influenced culture but also drawn a wide range of viewers to digital platforms, movie theaters, and audio spaces.” This is how Raul Niño Zambrano, Sheffield DocFest’s creative director, expressed it in a statement.

This year’s Sheffield DocFest runs June 18-23.

Sheffield DocFest, we appreciate you entrusting us with curating this program during such an unprecedented time. Typically, things are running smoothly, but now it’s anything but ‘business as usual.’ The surge in documentary and unscripted funding has diminished, and the importance of diversity and free speech is being challenged. However, we view these circumstances not as setbacks, but as opportunities to innovate, experiment, and redefine storytelling. In essence, it’s about embracing ‘business as unusual,'” Bailey and Barbato expressed in a statement.
