‘Carrie’ TV Series From Mike Flanagan Officially Greenlit at Amazon

The “Carrie” TV series on Amazon Prime Video has been formally commissioned, as EbMaster has discovered.

News about the upcoming pickup is made public following our exclusive report that Summer H. Howell is in talks for the lead role, while Siena Agudong has been confirmed as Sue Snell. It was initially announced that the show was being developed back in October 2024. Amazon has commissioned eight episodes, with filming set to commence this summer in Vancouver.

‘Carrie’ is a classic tale that remains culturally significant, as evidenced by its enduring popularity,” stated Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “Under the direction of Mike Flanagan and the talented team including executive producer Trevor Macy, this thought-provoking series promises to enthrall our worldwide audience.

Previously announced, renowned contemporary horror director Mike Flanagan takes on multiple roles including executive producer, showrunner, scriptwriter, and director for selected episodes in this upcoming series. Trevor Macy will also serve as an executive producer. The production company, Amazon MGM Studios, is responsible for bringing this project to life.

The show is a fresh, contemporary take on Stephen King’s first novel, titled “Carrie”. It revolves around the character of Carrie White, portrayed by Howell, who has spent most of her life isolated due to her controlling mother. After the unexpected and premature demise of her father, Carrie ventures into the unfamiliar world of high school. She encounters a series of bullying incidents that rock her community, and simultaneously discovers she possesses extraordinary telekinetic abilities.

In recent times, Flanagan has emerged as one of the key figures shaping the horror genre, garnering significant acclaim for his works. His TV series such as “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher” on Netflix, along with films like “Doctor Sleep” (an adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to “The Shining”) and “Gerald’s Game,” another King novel adaptation, have earned him widespread recognition. More recently, Flanagan has adapted Stephen King’s 2020 novella “The Life of Chuck” into a film featuring Tom Hiddleston.

Flanagan is repped by WME, Novo, and VanderKloot Law.
