Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Trinity in “The Matrix” franchise, has no regrets about stepping away from acting following its immense popularity. In an interview with The Independent, she expressed that she made this decision after the success of the original film in 1999 and its sequels, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions,” released in 2003. Instead, she chose to focus on her family life by strategically turning down significant acting opportunities after the trilogy ended, in order to become a mother.
Following the success of ‘The Matrix’, I decided to take a long break to focus on my family and raise my children,” Moss explained to the magazine. “At times, I felt torn between exciting career opportunities and the joy of being with my baby. But when I held my child in my arms, I wondered if at the end of my life, having another movie credit would matter more than cherishing those moments with my child. Instantly, the answer was clear – no regrets. I’m grateful for that decision.
Eventually, Moss ended up reappearing in franchise productions, taking on a character in the Marvel TV show “Jessica Jones.” More recently, she made an appearance as a Jedi in the “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte,” but unfortunately, due to poor viewership numbers, the show was terminated after just one season.
Moss commented on the brief run of ‘Star Wars,’ expressing a sense of disappointment, but not surprise. He added that this type of industry isn’t for everyone, and at some point, one needs to accept its realities.
In 2021, Moss once again took on the role of Trinity in the major production “The Matrix Resurrections”. However, the film’s box office performance was influenced by Warner Bros.’ approach that year, which involved releasing movies both in cinemas and on streaming platforms simultaneously.
Indeed, that period felt quite peculiar for me, as the fourth Matrix movie dropped on a streaming service [HBO Max]. However, I seldom dwell on others’ opinions. As I’ve often expressed, one can only truly control their personal journey. To me, working on that film was an extraordinary gift, and I cherished every moment of it.
