Carlos Watson Says Trump Has Commuted His Prison Sentence for Ozy Media Fraud

Carlos Watson and his followers claim that President Donald Trump has granted a clemency for the almost decade-long jail term that he was given following his conviction on charges of widespread fraud during the management of his digital media company, Ozy Media.

In December, Watson received an 116-month prison sentence after being found guilty of securities fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. It’s believed that Watson was on his way to surrender to federal prison officials when he got a call informing him that his request for clemency had been approved.

The matter was managed by the office of the recently designated “Clemency Chief,” Alice Marie Johnson, during Trump’s term, while Glenn E. Martin, a noted activist and businessperson, advocated for Watson’s case. Martin celebrated Trump’s decision regarding this issue on his X post.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Following the collapse of his digital media startup, Ozy Media, Watson found himself under federal investigation for alleged fraud. As shocking tales of deception within the company surfaced, the most sensational case that caught the eye of New York prosecutors was detailed in a 2021 New York Times article. In this instance, it was revealed that Watson’s Ozy Media partner, Samir Rao, had falsely represented himself as executives from major media firms during their attempts to secure investments.

Rao pleaded guilty to securities fraud and wire fraud charges. He was sentenced to probation.
